Edgar Walter Franz

Edgar Walter Franz, age 87, died on March 30, 2014 at Savannah Square in Savannah, Georgia.
Mr. Franz was born May 14, 1926, son of Daniel Nicholas Franz (deceased) and Elly Hauck Franz (deceased), in St. Louis, Missouri. He is also predeceased by a brother, Norman D. Franz.
He attended Ritenour High School, enlisting in the U. S. Navy prior to graduation, serving in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.
Upon honorable discharge from the service he attended Washington University of St. Louis, graduating with a B.S. in business administration. He later completed the Harvard University Advanced Management Program. His career as an insurance executive with Liberty Mutual spanned 35 years and he retired as a vice-president of the National Sales Office in Boston, Massachusetts. An avid sailor, he was a former member of the Norwalk Yacht Club and the New York Yacht Club.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Estelle Franz, of Savannah, and his sons, Daniel T. Franz (Carol) of Columbus, Ohio and Michael N. Franz of Marlborough, Massachusetts. He is also survived by grandchildren Ashley Zimbelman (Bradley) of Peoria, Arizona, Jo-Ann Hartkop (Mark) of Medina, Ohio, John Franz of Eureka, California, and Daniel N. Franz (Caroline) of Columbus, Ohio; and eleven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jim Giddens officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that any remembrances being made in his memory be directed to the Skidaway Island United Methodist Church endowment fund.
