John Thomas Evans, III

John Thomas Evans, III, 71, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Candler Hospital. He was born in Savannah, son of John Thomas Evans, Jr. and Elizabeth Palmer Evans. He was a 1960 graduate of Benedictine Military School and attended Armstrong State College. Mr. Evans was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Korea. After the military, he started a long and distinguished career in banking working for C&S Bank in Savannah and Atlanta, SunTrust Bank in Orlando, FL and retired in 2006 from the National Bank of Commerce in Birmingham, AL. He was baptized into the Catholic faith, an avid golfer and a supporter of animal protection. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant daughters, Julie and Erin.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Carolyn R. Evans of Richmond Hill, GA; sons, John T. "Chip" Evans, IV and his wife, Jennafer of Cumming, GA; Andrew Joseph Evans of Lanai, Hawaii; grandchildren, Jaden, Olivia, and Chloe; siblings, Mary Ellen Owen and her husband, Harold of Fayetteville, GA; Sondra Rack and her husband, David of Ringgold, GA; Michael Evans and his wife, Frances of Lawrenceville, GA; Robert Evans of Savannah; David Evans and his wife, Tina of Dallas, GA; Gene Evans and his wife, Marion of Edgewood, MD and numerous nieces and nephews.

A rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m., Friday, July 18, 2014 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment will follow in The Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
