Hilda Gattmann Patton
Hilda Gattmann Patton, 85, of Savannah, GA, passed away peacefully at Savannah Commons Thursday, September 11. Born on May 31, 1929 to the late Fritz Gattmann, Jr and Josephine Masters Gattmann, she was a lifelong resident of Savannah, Georgia.
Hilda graduated from Commercial High School in 1947. She married her childhood sweetheart, Henry Murriel Patton, on December 26, 1948 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. When Murriel joined the Navy, Hilda traveled with him to California. They returned to Savannah shortly after to start a family. In addition to being a devoted wife and loving mother of five children, Hilda worked for Hunter Army Airfield, Oglethorpe Mall Properties and IBM, from which she retired in 1987.
Hilda was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking, cross-stitching, watching game shows, quarter slot machines, and spending time with her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband,Henry Murriel Patton; her brothers, Fritz Gattmann III, William Gattmann, Chris Gattmann; and her sister, Josephine Gattmann Clarke.
She is survived by two sons and their spouses, Dr. Henry (Vicky) Patton, Jeff (Beth) Patton; three daughters and their spouses, Eleanor (Gary) Purvis, Anita (Karl) Muller, and Dorothy (Bert) Buckman; fifteen grandchildren, Dr. Jonathan Patton, Kristen Sagar, Jordan Patton, Meghan McFarlin, Marie Hartshorn, Carrie Purvis, Theresa Purvis, Jennifer Brewer, Katie Huckaby, Jessica Faunce, Melissa McQuade, Theresa Anne Smith, Amanda Parris, Brittney Buckman, Herbert Buckman, seventeen great grandchildren and three great grandchildren on the way.
The lights of Las Vegas were dimmed for her.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 14, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary Service at 6:30 p.m. in the Islands Chapel of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:00 p.m., Monday, September 15, 2014 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Remembrances may be made to St. Peter the Apostle Catholic School.
