Celebrating the life of

Ann Shoemaker Boxxe

December 20, 1959 - September 26, 2014

Ann Shoemaker Boxxe

SAVANNAH – Ann Marie Shoemaker Boxxe, 54, died September 26, 2014, at St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital Savannah after a brief illness.

She was born December 20, 1959, in Savannah, GA, and was a lifelong resident of the city.

Ann graduated from St. Vincent’s Academy, Savannah, and spent most of her life as a homemaker.  During the past 10 years she was the primary caregiver for her mother, Stella Shoemaker, as well as being a loving aunt to nieces and nephews.  Ann was especially devoted to her older sister, Joan Aliffi, and regarded Joan as her closest friend.  A longtime communicant of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in Thunderbolt, GA, Ann later became a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Although Ann struggled for years with muscular dystrophy, she created a life of loving support and joy for her mother, Stella. The entire Shoemaker family will always be grateful for these many years of her selfless companionship and care.

Preceding Ann in death are her father, Louis C. Shoemaker, and two brothers, Bobby and Michael Shoemaker.

Surviving Ann are her mother, Stella Shoemaker; her sister Joan (Frank) Aliffi of Savannah; three brothers: Richard (Carol) Shoemaker of Athens, GA; Carl (Vicky) Shoemaker of Savannah; and Gary (Joyce) Shoemaker of Ocala, FL.; her former spouse of 26 years, Douglas Boxxe of Pooler, GA; her nieces Lisa Erwin, Laura Walger, Anna Aliffi, Tori Shoemaker; and her nephews Joey Shoemaker, Brian Shoemaker, and Bryce Shoemaker.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 1, at the Islands Chapel of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, 4605 Highway 80 E, Wilmington Island.

Immediately following the visitation, the funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, also at the Islands Chapel.

Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, 315 Greenwich Road, Savannah.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Rivers, Stephen Rivers, Bryce Shoemaker, Carl Shoemaker, Gary Shoemaker, and Paul Shoemaker.

The family suggests any remembrances be made in Ann’s memory to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

My heart is grieved at hearing the news of Ann's passing, as well as for the pain of the family. It is my sincere hope that she, by passing unexpectedly, and at a relatively young age, avoided prolonged suffering later. My faith comforts me knowing that she is resting peacefully, and now awaits the fulfillment of the resurrection hope. I cannot help but think of the happy times we had together as our families occasionally would visit one another. Please accept my sincere sympathy.

- Louis Shoemaker, Alpharetta, Ga
