Celebrating the life of

Letty Hazelwood McGeehan

March 15, 1932 - October 20, 2014

Military Wife and Businesswoman

Letty Hazelwood McGeehan

Letty Hazelwood McGeehan, aged 82, died October 20 at Memorial Medical Center.   She was born on March 15, 1932, in Megargel, Texas, near Wichita Falls and married the late James R. McGeehan (U.S. Air Force, retired) in 1949.

She was a high school graduate and attended Savannah Vocational High School.   A military wife, she was a working mother at a time when few women worked outside the home, holding a series of accounting positions as the family moved from state to state.     After her husband’s retirement from the military in 1970, she moved back to Savannah and worked at Dearing Chevrolet and later in the McGeehan family business, Mack’s Gun Shop, founded by her father-in-law, Lester McGeehan.

Letty McGeehan was active in the Women’s Auxillary of the Alee Temple Patrol and served as a volunteer in the Candler Hospital Auxillary  for over twenty-five years.   She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the DAR.

Surviving family members include her daughter, Carol McGeehan, of Arlington, Massachusetts, and her son-in-law and granddaughter, Stephen Grubaugh and Anne McGeehan Grubaugh.   She is also survived by her twin sister, Betty Gillis of Littleton, Colorado.

A private service will be held in November at Green Hill Cemetery in Sylvania, Georgia.

Remembrances may be sent to the Humane Society of Greater Savannah.
