Celebrating the life of

Nancy Neumann

April 18, 1941 - December 09, 2014

Nancy Neumann

SAVANNAH - Nancy Jean (Newlin) Neumann was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 18, 1941. She died in Savannah, Georgia on December 9, 2014.

Nancy is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Bob, and their three children, Jim, Jean, and John, of whom she was extremely proud. She is mourned by her sister, Janet Hauber, and her brother, Bob; her daughters-in-law, LeeAnn and JoJo; and grandchildren Audrey and Bradley Neumann, Jeffrey and Andrew Kummeth, and TJ and Lyssa Neumann. All of her grandchildren lovingly addressed her as the Oma.

Nancy’s primary and secondary education was in the Chicago public schools. She earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a master’s degree in mathematics from Northwestern University. Always a gifted student, Nancy was valedictorian of her high school graduation class and, among her college honors, was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa society in her junior year in college.

With her strong background in math, Nancy chose to teach. She sought no more lofty position. Her calling was to share her joy and her knowledge in the discipline that she loved. And she brought to her students her dedication and her warmth. She taught in secondary schools in both Illinois and New Jersey.

After retiring from teaching and moving to Savannah in 1997, Nancy immersed herself in volunteer activities including serving as a docent at the Telfair Museum of Art, volunteering at the Village Library, and participating in many church activities.

”In everything that becomes a woman

Her words and her ways are beautiful…”

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church on December 13, 2014 beginning at 10 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Nancy Newlin Neumann Scholarship Fund, University of Wisconsin Foundation, 1848 University Avenue, Madison, WI 53726.
