Eleanor Berty White, 95, passed away Monday, January 19, 2015 at Oceanside Nursing Home.
She was born in Falls Creek, PA, a daughter of the late Celeste H. and Alelia (Turner) Berty. She was the sister of the late Norman, Arthur, Maurice, Allen, Emma, Ethel and Edith.
Eleanor moved to Savannah in the late 40s and worked for the CDC on Oatland Island. Later she returned to Pennsylvania and lived in the Pittsburgh, PA area for many years. She attended Central Presbyterian Church in McKeesport, PA and was active in the Women’s Club there. She also worked as the church secretary at Central Presbyterian Church and was a Girl Scout leader. Later in life, she moved to Pompano Beach, FL to enjoy the warmer weather and play more golf. She attended Christ Methodist Church in Ft. Lauderdale, FL where she was an active member of the Wesley Group and United Women’s Fellowship. She worked in the church office at Christ Methodist Church, where in addition to secretarial duties; she was responsible for publishing the weekly bulletins. She moved to the Savannah area in 2005 to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law. She lived at Summer Breeze and attended the Wilmington Island United Methodist church where she was active as a volunteer until her health began to fail.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and David Ason of Tybee Island, grandsons David and Christy Ason of Tybee Island and Brandon Ason and Karen Lyle of San Francisco, CA. She is also survived by three great grandchildren, Lauren, Jenna and Trey Ason and sister Evelyn Kunze of Texas and a large number of nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service to honor her life will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel, with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer Association.
