Ernestine Hyers Wilcox

Ernestine Hyers Wilcox, age 97, died Wednesday, January 28, 2015.  She was born in Pierce County on May 23, 1917 to her parents, Ida Henderson and Jacob Hyers.

She was predeceased in death by her parents, brothers: Claude, Clifford, Clinton, and Cecil Hyers, and her husband of 49 years, Arthur William Wilcox, Sr.

She was a Georgia native having lived most of her life in Savannah.  She was a homemaker and a wonderful cook and seamstress.  She was a member of the Daffin Heights Garden Club for many years having served as President several times.  She faithfully attended Epworth United Methodist Church, the Joy Class Sunday School class and was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Women’s Auxiliary.

She is survived by a son, Arthur William Wilcox, Jr., and a daughter, Judith Wilcox Holland, and her husband, Dr. James Wilbur Holland, Jr., all of Savannah.  Her four grandchildren called her “Nanny”.  They are: James Wilbur Holland, III, Emily Anne Holland, Dr. Bracey Hyers Holland, Sr., and his wife, Dr. Susan Kim Holland, and Arthur William Wilcox, III, all of Savannah.  Nanny loved her three great-grandchildren: Bracey Hyers Holland, Jr., Thomas Young Holland, and Holland Anne Reagan, all of Savannah.  She is also survived numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 30, 2015 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 31, 2015 at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church with The Reverend Kevin Kelly officiating.

Interment will follow in Bonaventure Cemetery.

Remembrances may be made to St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 3101 Waters Ave, Savannah, GA 31404.
