John J. Walsh, Jr.

Colonel John J. Walsh, Jr., (U.S. Army Retired), 87, died Monday, March 23, 2015 at Hospice Savannah. John was born in Philadelphia, PA to John Walsh, Sr. and Marcella Walsh. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at age 17 in June 1945, and completed Officers Candidate School in 1947. He served during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. During his military career he received the Silver Star and the Presidential Unit Citation.
He graduated from the University of Georgia and George Washington University where he received two Master’s degrees.
He was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church, and was a member of the Savannah Area Military Officers Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother.
John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Charlotte Walsh, his sister, Virginia Walsh, and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 26, 2015 at St. James Catholic Church.
Burial will 12:00 p.m., Friday, March 27, 2015 in Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville, GA.
