Celebrating the life of

Dick Smith

December 27, 1939 - May 14, 2015

Dick Smith

(J. Richard) Dick Smith, age 75, died peacefully at home May 14, 2015 under the care of Hospice Savannah. Born in Albertville, Alabama, Dick grew up in Birmingham and attended the University of Alabama. He resided on Tybee Island for the past 26 years.

Borrowed from a fellow Realtor, his motto was: “Always give back to your church, your community, and your profession.” He lived that motto. A faithful member of Trinity Chapel United Methodist Church on Tybee Island, Dick served on the Trustee Committee. Founder and president of Commercial Real Estate Properties, he was well respected in the Real Estate Community for over 30 years, having served on various committees with the Savannah Board of Realtors and Commercial Real Estate Council. He loved Tybee Island, having served on City Council and other volunteer positions with the city. In addition, he was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Marine Rescue Squadron, Tybee Island Historical Society, and the Tybee YMCA Board. He could be found every Monday morning volunteering at the Tybee Light Station. His latest passion was the restoration of the Tybee Post Theater where he served on the board.

Preceded in death by his son, Richard, he is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carolyn; daughter and son-in-law, Andi and Frank DeFelice; daughter-in-law, Laura Smith and granddaughter Maggie Smith of Culver City, CA; grandson, Carson Carter; brother, Michael Smith of Gulf Breeze, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.

The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, May 18, 2015, at Trinity Chapel United Methodist Church on Tybee Island.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances be made in his memory to Trinity Chapel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1203, Tybee Island, GA 31328, Tybee Post Theater, P.O. Box 2356, Tybee Island, GA 31328, or Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.
