Celebrating the life of

Jeffrey Roderick (Roddy) Beasley

February 11, 1945 - May 14, 2015

Jeffrey Roderick (Roddy) Beasley

Our wonderful Roddy, 70, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 13, 2015. Roddy left this world much like he lived his life, characteristically understated, gently, and in the most dignified manner. Born in Savannah to Rosa Lee Eanes (Friedman) and Jerome “Mack” Beasley. He grew up in downtown Savannah where he attended Massey Elementary School, high school at the Blue Ridge School in NC, and Wake Forest University on a swimming scholarship before joining the Marine Corps. He graduated from Armstrong College. Roddy married the love of his life, Angela Maggioni, and they were a team for fifty years. You could not say Roddy without saying Angela in the same sentence.

Roddy owned and operated Maggioni Seafood, Inc. a 150-year-old family seafood and oyster business located in St. Helena, SC. An outdoorsman and dog lover, he was committed to the culture and the well-being of the low country.

He was just as comfortable in khakis as in a tuxedo, and rest-assured, both had pockets full of dog treats. Wherever Roddy was, a dog was never far behind.

He loved spending time on his dock among the quiet, beauty of the rivers and marshes with family and friends. He was known for his wit, and his friends appreciated his sense of fashion — they referred to his wardrobe as the “JRB Collection” (Jeffrey Roddy Beasley Collection”) because his selection of clothing was uniquely “Roddy Casual.” His outfit always included one of his original Maggioni caps, which he made a point of giving out as gifts to all who would have one.

Roddy was authentic, kind, and unpretentious. He treated everyone the same and would go out of his way to help someone in need. He was gracious and loving, hilarious and cool.

He was “movie star” handsome but never vain. He lived life on his own terms, and led by example. God speed on gossamer wings, Roddy Beasley, Pied Piper of Dogs, Prince of Tides. You will be missed, remembered, and will always be loved.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of fifty years, Angela (Maggioni); his children Alyson Beasley-Spinks (Brad) and Jeffrey Beasley both of Savannah; a granddaughter Olivia Spinks; a sister Sandra Rhangos (Bill) of Savannah; an extended family of nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law, and many cherished friends. He was predeceased by his brother William Dana Beasley.

Service graveside, Greenwich section, Bonaventure, Saturday, May 16,10am. Celebration to follow at Angela Beasley’s Puppet People Studios, Furber Avenue, Thunderbolt. Casual dress. Donations to Savannah Humane Society or Hospice Savannah in lieu of flowers.foxandweeks.com

After reading this obit, the only thing I can say is I'm sorry I never got to meet him. I knew he had to be a great guy and a fun-loving one too since he was with one of my crazy friends in the hospitality business. I'm very sorry for this lose. It is not easy losing your husband regardless how long you were together. You will never forget him, but will learn to live with this great lose. We are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. Looking forward to working with you for many years to come. Ginny & Larry
