SAVANNAH - Mike Werntz passed away Tuesday May 19, 2015 after a short illness. Mike was born in Savannah, Ga. on August 12, 1968 to Norma McGinnis and Charles Michael Werntz, Sr. Mike attended Calvary Baptist School and Benedictine Military School where he graduated in 1986. He went on to Armstrong State College.
Mike loved computer technology. He worked with companies in the Savannah area and finally went out on his own as an independent contractor and consultant. Mike worked in Pompano Beach, Florida for several years as well as in Savannah. Mike was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Gleason, his beloved grandmothers, Mary E. McGinnis and Margaret D. Werntz, his grandfathers, George M. McGinnis and Gilbert H. Werntz, Sr. and aunt Nancy Werntz Yarbrough.
He is survived by his parents Norma Jean McGinnis and Charles Michael Werntz, Sr. (Jeanie); children Hannah Lindsey Flaherty and Michael "Bubba" Flaherty. On his mother's side, he is survived by his brother, Charles Gleason, Jr, aunt Pasty Hinely, PhD.; cousins Joseph Hinely, III, Sofia Hinely, and Matthew Brannon Hinely.
On his father's side, he is survived by his brother Patrick Werntz (Jackie), sisters Jessica Werntz and Shannon W. Williams (Doyle), uncles Gilbert H. Werntz, Jr. (Lynda) and Richard Yarbrough, Sr., aunt Helen Werntz Mathis (James), cousins Richard Yarbrough, Jr. (Ann), Theresa Y. Dileo, Christopher Yarbrough (Amanda), Gilbert H. Werntz, III (Alice), Stephen C. Werntz (Elana), A. Kevin Werntz (Sally), Joey Hamilton (Lauren), Marcie Hamilton (Greg) and Gabriel Mathis (Samantha).
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 29, 2015 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel with visitation following until 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Benedictine Military School, 6502 Seawright Dr., Savannah, Ga. 31406.
