Accomplished Artist
SAVANNAH – Ms. Margaret Prine Evans died on June 11, 2015. As a child, Margaret attended Massie Elementary School, 38th Street School, Richard Arnold Junior High School, and graduated from Savannah High School in 1941. She attended Armstrong Junior College in Savannah and studied as an accomplished artist under local artists, Peggy Cone, Christopher Murphy, Leonora Quarterman, and others.
Margaret was employed in April 1941 with Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company and retired in management as Business Office Supervisor in 1981. She was a member of Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church, served on its Administrative Board and sang in the Chancel Choir, member and past President of Altrusa International, which donated the statue of The Waving Girl to Savannah, as well as the Savannah Art Association and the Savannah Artists Guild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Darius Evans, Sr. and Estelle Prine Evans and her brother, D. Dexter Evans.
She is survived by a cousin, Rosalind G. Evans of Savannah, Georgia and Rosalind’s daughter, Rosalind Evans Weiss of Palm Bay, Florida and niece, Nancy Evans Wilson of Midland, Texas and her nephew, Gary L. Evans of Dallas, Texas and a cousin, Charles Thomas Kirk, III of Tybee Island, Georgia.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., Sunday, June 14, 2015 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
The funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 15, 2015 at Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church, 429 Abercorn Street, Savannah, Georgia 31401.
