Elizabeth Waring Barrow

Elizabeth Pollack Waring Barrow, 90, died Sunday, June 28, 2015 at her home with her family by her side.  She was born February 26, 1925 in Savannah to the late Charles Ellis Waring and Elizabeth Stewart Waring.  Mrs. Barrow graduated from St. Margaret’s Boarding School in Waterbury, Connecticut.  She was married on January 25, 1947 to the late David Crenshaw Barrow, Jr., who died on October 21, 2008 after 61 years of marriage. Mrs. Barrow was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and was known for her kindness, grace, and sensitivity.

She was a lifelong Episcopalian and a current member of St. John’s Church. She served on the alter guild and as a Verger for many years at Christ Church. In her earlier years she was an avid bridge player.  All her life she was an active gardener and lover of nature.

Mrs. Barrow is survived by a daughter Elizabeth S. Barrow and her husband M. Earl Hagan, Jr. of New York City; two sons, David C. Barrow III and his wife Elaine H. Barrow; and Charles W. Barrow and his wife Janet R. Barrow, all of Savannah.  Mrs. Barrow has five grandchildren, David C. Barrow IV and his wife Virginia S. Barrow; George H. Barrow and his wife Martha V. Barrow; Virginia Barrow Hills and her husband Edward Adams Hills.; Charles E. W. Barrow and his wife Katherine B. Barrow; and Thomas B. Barrow.  She also has nine great-grandchildren: Victoria R. Barrow, Elizabeth R. Barrow, Julia F.R. Barrow, David C. Barrow V, Thomas C. Reed, Barrow H. Reed, Charles E. W. Barrow, Jr., Lily V. Barrow, and Kahala V. Barrow.

The family would like to express their special thanks to the staff of Hospice Savannah, Riverview Rehabilitation Center, Comfort Care of Savannah, and longtime caregiver Gayle Maze for their very kind and excellent care.

Visitation will be 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Bonaventure Cemetery.

The family will receive family and friends at the home of Charles and Janet Barrow, Springtide on Ferguson Avenue following the service.
