Celebrating the life of
Alice Lincoln Hunt Daily
October 05, 1923 - July 22, 2015
SAVANNAH – The “Last Settler” of Whitemarsh Island went home to rest July 22, 2015, in her home, surrounded by her family and following a brief battle with cancer. Alice was born October 5, 1923 in Lancaster, PA and was a Savannah resident for 51 years.
Educated at Friend’s Central High School and Hood College, she worked in Philadelphia as the program director for KYM-FM prior to moving to Savannah. After raising four children, she served as office manager for Obstetric Anesthesia.
What Alice is most known for is her tireless work on behalf of The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. She had a passion for history and period furniture that was fueled by the opportunities here in Savannah. She held many posts with the Dames, including National Recording Secretary, National Bulletin Editor, Georgia State President, State Museum Properties Chairman, Andrew Low House Furnishing Chairman, and Historian, as well as establishing The Friends of the Andrew Low House. Alice will long be remembered for her sharp mind and focused attention to detail. She was also a member of the Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Historic Savannah Foundation.
Those who have gone before her include her parents, Clarkson Toms Hunt II and Margaret Evans Lincoln Hunt, her beloved husband, Francis Willson Daily, and son, Charles Huntington Daily.
Those left to remember her include her daughter, Mary Elizabeth and husband, Richard G. Long, Jr., of Huddleston, VA, son, John Rittenhouse Daily and wife, Pamela, of Decatur, GA, and son, Clarkson Converse Daily of Maitland, FL, grandchildren, Sarah E. Long, Kathryn G. Long, Amanda H. Daily, Paul R. Daily, and Evan P. Daily, and her sister, Margaret H. Landis of Columbia, PA.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to Gail Ewaldsen for her friendship and support, and to T.H.A Group’s Islands Hospice.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2015, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel followed by a reception at the family home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Friends of The Andrew Low House, 329 Abercorn St., Savannah, GA 31401 or The Humane Society for Greater Savannah, 7215 Sallie Mood Dr., Savannah, GA 31406.

I will miss my "Auntie Alice" and her warm, dignified style. The memories of our families laughing around the big tables in Lancaster and Savannah are among the fondest of my life. -PD

I am going to miss Alice so much! I have always thought to myself that if I could be like Alice Daily in my later decades, I would be perfectly satisfied. I am heart-broken that she was taken so quickly although knowing Alice I think she is probably happy about that fact. I am so glad I was able to spend some time with her a couple of weeks ago. You are all in thoughts and prayers, With deepest sympathy, Kelly
- Kelly Newberry, Savannah,, GA
Alice was the epitome of a gentle lady. She was brilliant, and beautful. What a pleasure it was to know her. A lovely lady who will be missed by so many.
- Leila Barrett Case, Americus,, GA
I knew her for a very short time, but each visit with this beloved lady will be in my memory forever. Her sharp mind, loving words and precise manner is something that I wish young people and adults emulated in our day. I am happy for her passing because of the pain, but the world lost a perfect example of human capacity in Alice Daily. Condolences to the family and friends.
