Celebrating the life of

Dr. Dana Brand Moody

September 08, 1965 - September 02, 2015

Dr. Dana Brand Moody

Dana Brand Moody, M.D. a resident of Savannah, GA, died on September 2, 2015, after a long fought battle with cancer. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and gave her peace. Dana was born September 8, 1965, in Harrisonburg VA. She grew up in Atlanta, GA and after graduating from Marist School in Atlanta, she earned a degree in history, from University of Virginia in 1987. She obtained her medical degree from The Medical College of Georgia in 1993, and completed her residency in Urology at the University of Florida in 1998. She was the first female resident to complete the Urology program. She furthered her training at MUSC, completing a fellowship in Urological Oncology.

Dana valued human life and cared for her patients as if they were family members, meeting more than just their medical needs. As a physician, she helped many people; and as a person, she touched many lives.

Dana was an exceptional mother to her two daughters Mary Elizabeth and Emily. She had the ability to see and help them each develop their unique gifts. She lived to spend as much time with her daughters as possible in all ways – spiritual development, academics, sports, and any personal interests that helped them develop to their fullest potential.

Dana is survived by her devoted husband of 23 years, Rodney L. Moody, M.D., and her two wonderful daughters Mary Elizabeth and Emily; her siblings Crissy Brand of Atlanta, GA, Staff Sergeant James R. Hardcastle USAF of Valdosta, GA, and Anne Hardcastle of Atlanta, GA; her niece, nephews, and godchildren. Dana was preceded in death by her mother, Jessica R. Lee.

The visitation will be Saturday, September 5, 2015, between 5 and 6:30 p.m., followed by a Rosary Service at 6:30 p.m., at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, 7200 Hodgson Memorial Dr, Savannah, GA 31406. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 6, 2015, in St James Catholic Church with Fr. Mark J. Ross presiding.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. James Catholic Church, 8412 Whitfield Ave., Savannah, GA 31406 or to the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University for the Glenn Family Breast Center Fund, Office of Gift Records, Emory University, 1762 Clifton Rd NE, Suite 1400, Atlanta, GA 30322, or make the gift online: winshipcancer.emory.edu/support

I have no words as I read of the passing of Dr. Dana Moody. I had the pleasure and honor of knowing Dana, Rodney and Mary Elizabeth when I worked as their nanny in Gainesville, FL. I was blessed to be inspired by her as a role model. She was dedicated as a wife, mother, professional, Catholic and caregiver. I regret losing touch after graduating but know that my heartfelt condolences go to Rodney, Mary Elizabeth and Emily. You will all be in my prayers. With much love!!

Dana was my high school classmate, we had many classes together during our senior year, and we got to know each other by studying together. She was super bright and at the very top of our class, which was a highly competitive college prep school. She knew in high school that she wanted to be a doctor, and I was happy to find out that she achieved her goal, and also happy to see that she has a beautiful family. Dana, I'm thankful to know you, and my sincere condolences to the Moody family.

- Joe Meyer, SF, ca

We send our prayers of support, as we are extended friends of Dana through ties to her life and colleagues while she studied and lived in Athens. We hope the comfort in great memories of her life well-lived, as well as her struggle to show grace in the face of this diagnosis, can help you all to find peace. God bless Dana and her family!

Every year we were looking forward to receiving picture of your family over the Christmas time. Not long time ago I saw one of those pictures while sorting letters. I was in tears missing you and your two beautiful daughters. We all love you and feel thankful of what you had contributed to our community when you lived at Athens.
