Sarah Ratcliffe Barber
October 19, 1928 - September 18, 2015
SAVANNAH – Sarah R. (Betty) Barber, a longtime resident of Savannah, died Friday, September 19th surrounded by loved ones after a short illness.
Born in Fairfax, SC, Betty received a Bachelor of Education from Georgia Southern College. She was an elementary schoolteacher in Chatham County for 40 years.
Betty loved reading, gardening, knitting and spending time with family. She was a member of Epworth Methodist Church, Savannah Jaycee’s, Elks Auxiliary, Women’s Club, Docent for the Andrew Low House, volunteered at Savannah Welcome Center and loved to play bridge.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, James W. Barber; parents, William E. & Elizabeth B. Ratcliffe; brothers, George, James & William Ratcliffe.
She is survived by her daughter, Ginny Barber Colcock (Jack) of Johns Creek, GA; son, William C. Barber (Karen) of Rincon, GA; granddaughter, Sarah B. Bowers (Ronnie) and grandson, Christopher C. Barber of Rincon, GA and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, September 21, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. The funeral service will be held 11:00AM, Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Bonaventure Cemetery.
