Margrate, I worked with you at Sav.Bank when you were expecting Mary. You were so kind to me I am not surprised at the condolences messages that were written about Mary. Sounds a lot like you. Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss. I believe there's not many things as great as leaving your mark while you're here on Earth. I can truly say that Ms. Hatch impacted my life as a teacher as well as my peers. For so many of us she gave us confidence in Math, which manifested in so many other areas in our lives. As I went on to college and completed other advance degrees I forever carried with me my math confidence, whose foundation was established by Ms. Hatch. She recommended me to be a teacher's assistant the summer before my junior year, and now I am also an educator. RIP Mary Hatch, for you have left your mark on thousands of young lives, who in turn paid it forward in their lives. WELL Done!!!!

Heartfelt condolences to the family. I had the pleasure of being in Ms. Hatch's homeroom over a four year span and during that time I found a friend. She was truly awesome. I sit back and laugh on when I was late for homeroom everyday. It got to the point where she just told me to hand her a piece of paper to appear to have an excuse so that the other kids wouldn't say anything. Fond memories. I pray your family finds comfort during this difficult time.

- Tamala Booker Middleton, Savannah, Ga.

To Mr. and Mrs. Hatch, and the Family, My deepest and heartfelt sympathy to you in the loss of Mary, our dear and beloved colleague and friend. Her smile was infectious. In fact it was her trademark, and yet it was so genuine. Mary was one of a kind. Tuff when she needed to be, but in the most conciliatory and gentle way. She was one of the most intelligent women I know, and she used that intellect to serve as a teacher, leader, coach and team player—in the most effective and unassuming ways. Mary was the ultimate party with a purpose planner! At school, home, St. Patrick’s Day and on and on… Her heart and home were open to her family and friends. Mary did this year after year…occasion after occasion. Mary did not seek public acknowledgement for anything that she did although she deserved the recognition. She just did it because it needed to be done. One of the greatest moments I had the pleasure to share with Mary was the occasion when the yearbook was dedicated to her with her parents, siblings, family, and student body in attendance. This brought Mary to tears—in her most humble posture and filled her with such emotion and gratitude she was unable to speak to the body who stood, yelled out chants of love and appreciation, and applauded her non-stop for several minutes. Yes, she was one of a kind. One I and many others who knew her and loved her will never forget. I pray you will find strength in knowing just how much so many others loved and respected her. She will be missed beyond what mere words can express. With sympathy, Dr. Deonn B. Stone

- Dr. Deonn B. Stone , Savannah, GA

I am sorry for your loss. Ms Hatch was a wonderful teacher. She impacted so many lives that walked the halls of A E Beach High School. It's my hope that I can help you and your family find comfort from the scriptures at this difficult time. In the beginning, Our Creator's purpose for us was to never feel the sting of death. Due to the disobedience of our first patents, Adam and Eve, we feel this awful pain on a grand scale. Our Creator purpose has not changed. In fact, He promises us that we will see our loved ones again (Acts 24:15). He also promises that death will be a thing of the past and very soon He will wipe out death and everything associated with it (Rev 21:3,4). He being the God of comfort knows exactly what we need at times like this (2 Cor 1:3,4). May His loving mercy and undeserved kindness be with you and your family.

When I moved to Savannah in the 80's, I taught with Mary at Beach; worked with her on projects for the district in the following years; and again, this fall at St. Vincent's. As enthused and passionate as she was in the 80's, she remained so throughout her career. Her broad smile and generous spirit filled any place she entered and we all learned more from her than any math she taught - and she knew how to teach math. Her gifts and lessons will live for a long time in the community and in all the places her students travel. May all the memories shared bring you comfort and may God hold you in the palm of his hand. With deepest sympathy.

To the family of Ms Hatch. Your loved one has touched many lives to include mine. All the way from Savannah and the classroom of A.E.Beach High is where I was blessed with four years of instruction from Ms Hatch. I once hated math, however, she ignited an ability and confidence for math that supported me through a B.S degree and two masters degrees from great universities. Ms. Hatch along with others at Beach High provided a launchpad that made my career possible. I appreciate her so much and regret I was never able to tell her this myself. So this is my condolence to you, her family....Thank you for sharing her with our Beach High family and supporting her by allowing her to touch the lives of many at a predominant black school where she was the minority. She was skilled enough to teach anywhere, however, she chose to make Beach High her choice and home. Thank you for not interfering with her love for the students at Beach High and impacting so many like me. My hope is the life she modeled continue to be an example for others to not let race be a barrier to being a positive influence for others.

Margrate, I worked with you at Sav.Bank when you were expecting Mary. You were so kind to me I am not surprised at the condolences messages that were written about Mary. Sounds a lot like you. I went to your house when Mary was a few weeks old. She was crying and you were exhaulted. You let me hold her. Then my oldest daughter Lisa went to school with Mary. Then my son had Mary as a teacher at Beach. He never had problems with math. I feel so for your family . My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

- Anne Stewart Smith, Sav, Ga/

RIP. MY prayers go out to you and your family. In God hands

- James Shaw, Savannah , Ga

Deonn B. Stone
