Celebrating the life of
Raymond K. Shatto
September 21, 1939 - November 11, 2015
Savannah- Raymond (Ray) K. Shatto, originally from Long Beach, California passed away peacefully aged 76. He was a resident of Savannah for over 58 years and was the proud owner of Savannah Business Equipment, which he founded over 40 years ago. Ray was known for his immense character, honesty and professionalism.
For those fortunate enough to know him personally they were privileged to have enjoyed his wonderful sense of humor and positive attitude.
Ray was passionate about boating and antiquing but equally enjoyed performing random acts of kindness and helping others down on their luck. He was in the United States Air force, a volunteer fireman at the Southside Fire Dept., he read to the blind, was a member of the Southside JC's and the Elks Lodge 183. He also attended Armstrong College before opening Savannah Business Equipment.
Surviving him is his wife of 56 years, Jean and children Craig Shatto (wife, Patti and daughters Claire and Catherine) of Savannah and Lara Shatto-Sweeney (husband, Andrew and daughter Arabella) of Kent, England, along with his sister Loretta Hofland of California.
Ray embodied what is best in men and the world has lost a truly great one.
There will be a visitation at 11 o’clock followed by a memorial service at 12 o’clock held at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel on Monday, November 16.
I met Ray through work in 1992, Over the years a friendship developed. I saw that Ray was a gentleman of impeccable integrity and was drawn to him by this and his wry sense of humor. Ray had a subtle demeanor, but was well thought out. Once engaged in conversation you realized that Ray had done his home work and what he was speaking of was well worth hearing. No doubt Ray's good sense of humor, kindness and intellect will be missed by many. I certainly will miss the occasions when we bumped into one another, and shared our thoughts on the concerns of the world. I pray God will soothe the hearts of his family during this time of loss. I am sad that he has passed away. He was such a great person to talk to when he came by the office and he was always smiling. I miss him already so much.
- Bernard A. Bailey, Savannah, GA
The world will be a little less bright without him. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I am at a loss for words.
