January 07, 1950 - January 01, 2016

Margaret Pacifici

Savannah- Margaret Pacifici, 65, passed away at her home on Friday, January 1, 2016 after a two year battle with cancer. Margaret was the sixth of eight children of the late Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Pacifici. She was born on January 7, 1950 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. She was a member of the St. Vincent’s Academy class of 1968. She attended St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing which was then affiliated with Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia, and graduated in 1971. After graduation she worked for St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. She later returned home, and worked for St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah. But Margaret’s most satisfying and rewarding time of her career were the years she worked for Dr. Robert Dibenedetto, an internist and pulmonologist at Medical Associates of Savannah. She remained there for twelve years until her retirement from nursing.

Margaret was an avid golfer, and a long-time member of the Savannah Golf Club. She was also a member of the Chatham Club of Savannah and the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Florida.

In addition to her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Pacifici, Margaret was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. James Grady Pacifici. She is survived by one brother, Dr. Joseph A. Pacifici (Karon) of Anderson, South Carolina, and five sisters, Mary (Dr. Jack Rollins) of Deland Florida, Joanne “Cookie” (Mr. John Keating) of Bluffton, South Carolina, Maureen (Dr. David H. Smith), Lucy (Mr. Robert Froelich) and Kathy Pacifici of Savannah, Georgia and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her dearest friend and companion (affectionately referred to as “Sweetie Pie”), William Donahue of The Ford Plantation, Richmond Hill, Georgia.

Visitation will be at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors at 7200 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Georgia on Monday, January 4, 2016 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM. Funeral services will be private.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Sandy McGlohon and her staff, especially Amy Thurmon, Wendy Mosley and Gloria Powers for not only their assistance in Margaret’s care over the past few weeks but also for the compassion bestowed on her family members.

In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to St. Vincent’s Academy or to the Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute Memorial Foundation.

My husband and I had the honor of first meeting Margaret at our daughter Ashleys wedding four years ago in destin Florida when Margaret came as Williams companion, we also got to spend Christmas with her back in 2014 when she and bill came to Fort Worth Texas to have Christmas with his family. It was a special time for us all, and we were so glad she got the chance to meet James the newest member of the family at that time. Margaret was a beautiful lady both inside and out. She was always thought of with affection as the Georgia peach!! I wish I had gotten to know her sooner to have spent more time with her. She will always be in our thoughts ! Our deepest condolences to all of her family and to William Donahue for his loss of a dear friend and companion.
