April 01, 1947 - January 16, 2016

Emory Wells Heidt

Emory Wells Heidt, age 68, died at Marshview Senior Living under the care of Hospice Savannah surrounded by her children. She was born April 1st, 1947 in San Jose, CA and lived in Savannah for most of her life. Emory was an avid UGA fan and graduated from the University of Georgia with a Masters degree in Counseling. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She loved autumn football games spent with family and friends in Athens, Ga. She was a pioneer in female membership in the Bulldawg Club of Savannah

Emory was most known for years spent counseling and guiding many young men at Benedictine Military School(including keeping her son, the elite 11, son-in-law and godson out of Coach Cannon's office). Emory knew no stranger and was quick to reminisce about her favorite days at Benedictine.

Junior League of Savannah, Daughters of the American Revolution, Flower Guild at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, active choir member and Dutch Island Board member are just a few of her many her voluntary, community involvements.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Mason Heidt, Jr.; her parents Elbert Burton Wells and Emory Bicker Wells.

Surviving are her children, James Mason Heidt III (member of the Savannah Quarterback Club) and Jameson Heidt Hall, of Savannah, GA; her daughter in law, Krista Hall Heidt, Savannah, GA; son-in-law, Ronnie Lee Hall Jr., Savannah, GA; grandchildren, Kaylie Madison Heidt, James Mattox Hall, Cohen James Mason Heidt and Emerson Wells Hall, brother and sister in law, Murray Stewart Marshall and Helen Heidt Marshall; nieces and nephews, Murray Stewart Marshall Jr., Margaret Marshall Bishop, Joseph Robson Marshall and James MacGregor Marshall.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church on the Isle of Hope.

The family suggests any remembrances be made in her memory to the James Mason Heidt, Jr. scholarship fund at Benedictine Military School or Chatham Academy at Royce Learning Center scholarship fund.

When we moved to Savannah from Orlando, Emory was among the first to welcome us. She was 2 doors down and we saw a lot of her, Jimmy, and the kids. Always smiling and upbeat, she was fun to be around. Her passing has got Audrey and me remembering the good times we had when we were around her. She was always kind and friendly. We are glad we knew her. She will remain a high light of our 35 years in Savannah.

Dear Jamison and Mason, Please accept my deepest condolences on the death of your mother. Emory was my high school counselor and mentor while I was a senior at Jenkins. I just learned of her passing today. What a tremendous difference she made in my life! She encouraged me to attend UGA and to pledge ADPi. I was a bridesmaid in her wedding, and she was also in mine. Emory or "Miss Wells", as we called her impacted the lives of so many students in the Class of 1971 at Jenkins! Her charming personality and genuine warmth attracted so many who considered her a friend and valued her guidance! Your family is in my prayers. Patty Lowe King
