Annie Lane Clark Biggs

Annie Lane Clark Biggs, widow of James H. Biggs, Sr. and seventh child of Charles D. Clark and Ida Estella Stafford Clark passed away on February 11, 2016. Annie was born August 30, 1921 in Liberty County Georgia on her father’s farm. In 1922 the family moved to Savannah, GA where Annie was educated in the public school system and is a graduate of Savannah High School.

Annie was a wife, mother, homemaker, family care giver for her husband, her husband’s parents and her parents. If a friend was in need Annie was there with her help and support. She was a church and community volunteer. She was very active in the Parent Teacher’s Association in her children’s schools as well as the Chatham County Public School System. She was a Girl Scout leader and instrumental in forming Troop # 42 of which she was the troop’s first leader. She was a member of Pierce Memorial Methodist Church, Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church, Robert McIntire United Methodist Church, Clayton P. Miller United Methodist Church, and is a member of Pt. Wentworth United Methodist Church. She has been a Methodist all of her life and an active volunteer,

Gardening was one of her favorite hobbies. She always had many different plants and shrubs. She always shared cuttings from plants and bulbs as they multiplied with family and friends. She shared her love of flowers with her grandchildren by shopping with them and letting them pick the new plants. Teaching them how to plant seeds and young plants in the spring was a yearly learning experience for them. Her grandchildren were the loves of her life and she spent many hours with them.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son, Charles Joseph Biggs and her siblings, Charles Wyman Clark, James Lewis Clark “Jay” , Ida Estella “Estell” Clark Watkins, John Stafford Clark, Walter Thomas “WT” Clark, Chole Clark Tarleton , and William “Bill” Ainsworth Clark. She was never happier than when all of her large extended family could be together. All of her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews still honored the memory of the family with family gatherings with Annie as long as she lived. She will be greatly missed by the Biggs and Clark families.

She is survived by her children, Margaret Lane Biggs Kennedy (Elwin) of Bulloch County, GA, James Henson Biggs, Jr. (Grace) of Orange Park, FL, and Pamela Faye Biggs Dumas (David) of Springfield, GA; grandchildren, Elwin Biggs Kennedy (Melissa) of Savannah, GA, William “Bill” Altman Kennedy (Leslie), James Henson Biggs, III, Clinton Sullivan Biggs of Orange Park, FL, Lauren Atalie Dumas Hollar (Aaron) of Columbia, SC, and Lyndsay Brook Dumas Smith (Chad) of Springfield, GA; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Frances “Fran” Dealva Anderson Clark of Shalimar, FL, and many loved nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be 1:30 p.m., Sunday, February 14, 2016 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.

Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Nona Grovenstein Sunday School Class of the Pt. Wentworth United Methodist Church.

The family would like to thank two very special care givers, Kathleen Smith and Clarees Nichols.
