Celebrating the life of

Louise C. Walker

November 06, 1940 - February 20, 2016

Louise C. Walker

Louise C. Walker died on February 20, 2016 at Savannah Hospice with her sister Julie C. Dunn by her side. She was born on November 6, 1940, in Boise, Idaho to Helen Andrea (Anson) and Edward Amos (Pete) Claycomb, both of whom had been born, raised and lived their entire lives in Idaho. Both are now deceased. Louise attended schools in Boise and Pocatello, Idaho. After attending Idaho State College (now University) in Pocatello for a year, she moved to the Washington, D.C. area and began working for the Department of Defense at the Pentagon. This initial position began a 34-year federal career, the majority of which was with the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), where she was promoted through a series of more challenging and responsible positions, culminating with her final position as Chief of Civilian Recruitment for DIA. During this career, she received numerous achievement awards.

In 1974, she married a DIA colleague, Richard Buchanan (R.B.) Walker, a widower with three young children, then ages 9, 4 and 2. Thus began her life as both a career woman and a mother involved in their school, social and sports activities. These children, and then their own families and children, continued to be a source of joy and happiness to her; she was very grateful to have them in her life.

She loved returning to Boise for visits with her parents and extended family. After her marriage to Richard, their family spent summer vacations in Idaho, enjoying daytimes filled with fishing, hiking, huckleberry picking, and other outdoor activities in the area of a tiny town called Donnelly. Evenings were spent playing raucous games of cards. As the children grew to adulthood with families of their own, these Idaho vacations expanded to include them all. Many wonderful memories were the result.

Her greatest asset was her sense of humor. Richard had an equally quick wit and they enjoyed each other’s company to the fullest. They were best friends. Louise learned to play golf because Richard was a golfer – and became very good at the sport. They enjoyed numerous trips with dear friends to many famous golf resorts, including a number of times to Scotland and Ireland.

In 1996, after both had retired from DIA, they moved to The Landings and relished all of the golf and social activities there, along with many volunteer activities. Sadly, Richard developed Alzheimer’s disease, and Louise was his devoted caregiver for the eight years prior to his death in 2009.

She is survived by her three children: Loretta (Lori) Walker Prencipe, her husband Michael and daughters Ciara and Holly of Alexandria, Va.; Linda Walker Richardson, her husband Todd and daughter Lily of Coral Springs, FL; and Theodore (Ted) Walker, his wife Jennifer and sons Ryan and Reed of Olathe, KS. She is also survived by her sister Julie Dunn of Boise, ID, and many dear cousins.

A reception will be held in Savannah at a later date. Interment will be at a later date in the Pioneer Cemetery in Horseshoe Bend, Idaho.
