Celebrating the life of
Jackie Roberts Cannon
November 15, 1940 - March 01, 2016
Jack R. Cannon died Tuesday, March 1, 2016. He was born on November 15, 1940 to the late Earl Jack and Mildred Nadine Cannon and raised in Yazoo City, Mississippi. Jack graduated from Mississippi State University with a BS Degree in Marketing and Accounting. After being commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1964, he served in the U.S. Air Force for 23 years and completed various military assignments, including a combat tour in Vietnam. Among his military awards, Major Cannon was awarded a Bronze Star for meritorious service, Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Combat Medal and Air Force Commendation.
In his civilian career, Jack was employed by Union Camp Corporation in Wayne, New Jersey for 28 years and retired as General Manager of International Sales and Marketing. He then spent five years with Price and Pierce International as Senior Vice President of Sales and developed Asian and South American markets before choosing permanent retirement.
A pilot for over 45 years, Jack's passion for flying and devotion to country compelled him to volunteer as a Coast Guard Aircraft Commander with the Coast Guard Auxiliary out of Air Station Savannah, where he continued to serve up to the time of his passing. In addition, Jack joined Angel Flight Soars in 2003 and flew over 100 missions, volunteering his time and expertise to helping those in need get the medical treatment they required.
He pursued his love of hiking, skiing and fishing in the Colorado Rockies with his wife and daughters. Jack is survived by his lovable and beautiful wife of 50 years, Sherri, his two daughters, Stacy and Kristen, son-in-law Rodney Green and two grandchildren, Rachael and Kade.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 7, 2016 at the Fox and Weeks Funeral Home, Hodgson Chapel, in Savannah, Georgia. The family will receive friends at 10:00 am prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Jack’s honor to Angel Flight at AngelFlightSoars.org and also to Veterans Support Foundation at vsf-usa.org. There will be a service at Arlington National Cemetery, date to be determined.
Please sign the online guestbook.

I first met Jack over 45 years ago when we were both young captains in the New York Air National Guard. Jack and I had both served four-years tours of active duty in the Air Force and were now acting as “weekend warriors” while pursuing our civilian careers. Everyone liked and admired Jack. He was the consummate gentleman and a superb officer. He was handsome, poised and had an infectious and charming southern accent. Jack accepted every assignment with a casual grace and excelled at every task. He was respected by superiors, peers and subordinates. To say that he will be missed is an understatement. It was an honor to know and to serve with him.
- John Perez, Boca Raton, Florida
Dear Sherri and family, my heartfelt sympathies are with you at this difficult time. May your memories give you peace and comfort. Cindy

Sherri, Stacy and Kristen I worked for Jack for over 20 years and he was the best boss I ever had. He was fair, honest and most understanding. He was also a great friend. While we parted ways many years ago I know that if I ever needed his assistance he would be there. He will be missed. Please accept our condolences.
- Nick and Mary Ann Saponara, Wayne, N J
Sherri, Stacy and Kristen: Jack was like an older brother to me. We traveled together in Asia and India. How could we forget India and the food poisoning. I'm surprised he forgave me. It was always easy traveling with Jack and I always felt we were a team. Jack had a gift of reaching a compromise in whatever we did. Our family enjoyed the ski trips to Steamboat; I think we were there when Jack put his skis back on for the first time in years. The great trips to Martha's Vineyard when Jack flew us up there. Especially the one when Sherri, Denise and I had a few drinks at the 94th Bomb Squad before the flight. That was a white knuckle ride but Jack got us there safe and sound with a little help from Steve Drosgrey. Sorry we can't be with you on Monday to celebrate Jack's life but we will be there in spirit. See you at Arlington. Bill and Denise MacDevette

Sherri, Kris and Stacy- I am so terribly saddened to hear of the loss of Jack and my heart goes out to you. You have been constantly in my thoughts the last few days knowing what a difficult time this must be for you losing such a great man in your lives. I regret that I will not be able to attend his service and give you all a big hug. Nonetheless, I would like to share a few thoughts and words with you in his memory if I may. I knew that Jack was a special kind of man the minute I first met him some twenty years ago and I will always proudly feel like a member of the Cannon family because of the genuine way in which he showed his approval and welcomed me into the fold. I felt an instant friendship and "Fatherliness" from him that provided a unique comfort and happiness to me. Jack made everyone around him better and he was a perfect example or role model for me as a young man. He never told me how to live my life, he just showed me through his own fine example. Jack was truly a great man- just the right amount of everything, not too much of anything. He was the rare kind of person that makes the world a better place and I am a better man for having known Jack Cannon. I will be eternally grateful for his positive influence on my life. Thank you for sharing him and allowing me so many fond moments and memories. You will all remain in my thoughts. Love, Drew

To the Cannon Family: I send my prayers for your family. I was blessed to have gotten to know Mr. Cannon over the past 8 1/2 years while working next door to him. We always would always meet over his coffee outside and me going in to work. He would always fuss at me for always smiling so early in the morning..."Do you always have to smile this early, I haven't had my coffee yet?" I would always respond, "before it's all over you will too if you know me". Guess what..he did until I left the office a year ago! Such a nice family!! Mrs. Sherri thank you for sharing him with us!! I will miss him!!

I hope that happy memories of times you have shared,as well as the support of family and friends, bring some comfort. Sadly, our family did not get to share a lot of time with Jack.
