Claxton "C.R." Harpe

Savannah- Claxton “C.R.” Harpe died Friday, March 4, 2016. Mr. Harpe was born March 11, 1926 in Sumter County, GA to the late Roy Harpe and the late Ruth Parker Harpe. He grew up in Leslie, GA where he attended high school and excelled in basketball. He retired from the transportation industry after 37 years. C.R. enjoyed fishing, hunting, and boating. He was an avid bowler and was a member of several bowling leagues.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Barnard Harpe in 2001, as well as his brother, Clifford W. Harpe, of Leslie, GA and his sister, Joyce H. Ellison, of Perry, GA.
He is survived by his son, Robert Harpe (Jo); his two daughters, Alethia Shelton (Larry) and Janeen Carter (Joseph), all of Savannah; his grandchildren, Kathy Harpe Scholer (Greg), Kim Harpe Gil (Larry), Brad Norwood (Cathy), Ryan Norwood (Tori), and Scott Taylor Shelton; ten great-grandchildren; and a devoted pet “Miss Kitty”.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 7, 2016, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
