Celebrating the life of
Catherine Nikki Argyros
August 23, 1948 - March 08, 2016
Catherine Nikki Argyros, 67, died March 8, 2016, at home. She was surrounded by her daughter, Alexis, son-in-law, Scott, and grandchildren. She was born August 23, 1948 in Astoria, Queens, New York, and also lived in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, before moving to Savannah, Georgia. She graduated in 1966 from Triton High School, Belmar, New Jersey. After raising two children as a single parent, she received a B.A. from Moravian college in Bethlehem, PA, in 1992.
Catherine was ahead of her time. With boundless determination and great enthusiasm she founded the Green Pages Environmental Newspaper in the early 1990's. She also produced and hosted an informational daytime talk show, and established the Displaced Homemakers Network. During the time she worked, she cared for the disabled and worked with children. The theme of her life's work was providing information and assisting those in need. She was also proud to have a piece of her writing in the archives of the National Museum for Women in the Arts.
She is cherished and survived by her daughters, Alexis McGlynn, Savannah, GA, and Nicole Nye Azzopardi, New York, NY, and her son-in-laws, Scott McGlynn and Frank Azzopardi. Catherine, who was often referred to as Yiayia, is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Grace, Sebastian, Lila, Cece and Vivienne.
She never lost hope. After an almost life long battle with chronic lung disease, which she valiantly fought with dignity and fierce tenacity, she is finally at peace. We love you Yiayia and we will be together on the other side. May god rest your soul.
A memorial service will be held Friday, March 11th at 12:00 p.m. at The Landings Plantation Club, 1 Cottonwood Drive, Savannah, Georgia, 31411. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
The family suggests that any donations be made to St. Basil's Academy, for the Catherine Argyros Scholarship Fund, 79 St. Basil’s Rd., Garrison, NY 10524. www.stbasil.goarch.org.
