Robert B. Golbey, M.D.

July 15, 1922 - March 12, 2016

Robert B. Golbey, M.D.

Robert B. Golbey, M.D., 93, died peacefully at home on March 12, 2016 with his wife, Monica Hunt, and his son Seth beside him. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1922, Bob spent 35 years at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center where he established the Solid Tumor Service and was a pioneer in the development of an effective treatment for testicular cancer. He served in the Korean War and continued in the U.S. Army Reserves, retiring as Brigadier General in 1984. Following his retirement from MSKCC he and Monica moved to The Landings in Savannah, Ga., where he enjoyed playing golf and travelling the world until the age of 90. At his request there will be no funeral service. Bob specifically asked that any remembrances be made in his memory to The Landings Military Relief Fund for Families, or to Hospice Savannah.  Please sign our online guest book.

GUEST BOOK

Having just returned form the 20 Year Dinner at MSKCC I read Dr. Golbey's name in the Memoriam section. He was a wonderful man and physician. My prayers go out to his wife and family

Dr. Golbey was a kind and wonderful man who literally saved my life at MSKCC. I am forever grateful for the caring way in which he treated my family and me during a very tough time. One of his other patients once said to me "Dr. Golbey is God" and I cannot disagree. I will never forget him. I'm so happy to read that he enjoyed his very long and well-earned retirement. God bless Dr. Golbey and his family.

Monica- my condolences to the family. Asa fellow at MSKCC in the 70s, Bob was a giant. He was always measured in his responses, willing to share all his knowledge. My best to you and the family.
