Celebrating the life of

Kathleen LaCroix Taylor

April 07, 1949 - April 14, 2016

Kathleen LaCroix Taylor

Kathleen LaCroix Taylor died April 14, 2016, at her home under the care of Hospice Savannah and her family after a very long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born April 7, 1949, in Waterville, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Roland E. and Lucille G. LaCroix. She attended and graduated from Sacred Heart School, Waterville High School, and Thomas College, all located in Waterville, ME. Wanting to expand her horizons, Kathy began a life that led her to Portland, ME, and eventually Honolulu, HI, where she lived for three years and worked at The Shriners Hospital for Children.

Upon returning to Maine, Kathy met her future husband Gordon while working for the same company. They were married on November 15, 1980, and began a life together that would give them opportunities to live in both of their home states of Maine and Georgia and raise a family that Kathy devoted all of her energy to. Kathy lived her life and supported her loved ones based on the solid foundation of her faith and family. There was nothing more precious to Kathy than her two children, Emily and Kenneth.

Kathy was a member of St. Francis of the Islands Episcopal Church where she served for many years as a member of the Altar Guild, the Meals On Wheels Ministry, and the Sunday School and Vacation Bible School ministries. She was a Girl Scout Troop leader and a Cub Scout Den Mother. She worked for 20 years for the Stamp and Stencil Company on West Bay Street before retiring in 2014. When cancer struck in 2001, Kathy was undeterred. She continued life without complaint or grief and watched her children grow as they graduated from high school and college, marry the loves of their lives, and brought her the joy of two granddaughters.

The family wishes to thank Dr. George Negrea and his staff at Low Country Cancer Care for the gracious care given Kathy during her many years of treatment.

Kathy is survived by her husband K. Gordon Taylor, Jr., Savannah, GA; daughter Emily Taylor Bever and husband Adam of Oakton, VA; son Kenneth Gordon Taylor III and wife Kristin of Johns Creek, GA; granddaughters Myka Jayne Bever and Kylie Marie Taylor; sisters Jackie Workman, Norma Vigue and husband Paul, and Judy Chute and husband Phil, of Waterville, ME; sister in law Virginia T. Beard and husband David, of Greenville, SC; brother in law David E. Taylor and wife Charlotte, of Kensington, MD; and nieces and nephews. Kathy is also survived by her beloved dog, Sophie.

A memorial service celebrating Kathy’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 18th at St. Francis of the Islands Episcopal Church on Wilmington Island. Interment will follow in the St. Francis Memorial Garden. A reception in the church parish hall will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St. Francis of the Islands Episcopal Church, 590 Walthour Rd, Savannah, GA 31410, or to St. Joseph’s/Candler Foundations, 5356 Reynolds Street, Suite 400, Savannah, GA 31405, for the Lewis Cancer and Research Pavilion.

No one in my life besides my father has ever shown such fight and determination for so many years while fighting a disease than Kathy. She inspired me everyday to keep going thru the tough times and never give up. She had such drive and fight in her, yet she was such a soft and kind and gracious person, I will NEVER forget her and am a better person for knowing her. Prayers to all of her family , especially to Gordon, Kenneth and Emily, I know how much you are hurting right now. You have a family forever in St. Francis and we will continue to pray for strength and guidance for you. Kathy was a wonderful soul that touched everyone she met. She was an amazing cook, friend, and godly woman. Heaven has a wonderful new angel among the sky. I will always strive to try to be as strong as Kathy was, she will be missed but loved forever. Kim

To Gordon and family, All of you have been in our prayers. Kathy was one fine lady. And it was my privilege to call her friend. She was brave and valiant in her fight, and I am thankful that God has given her rest and peace. I wish that I could be there for her Requiem Eucharist--but if not present in person, I will be there in spirit. Love and God's Peace, Dee
