Lowell Clifton Tillman

Lowell Clifton Tillman, 84, of Savannah, died peacefully, Monday, June 6, 2016 after a short illness. He was born in Appling County, GA on October 6, 1931, to the late Herschel and Ruth Tillman of Surrency, GA. He graduated from Surrency High School and was a graduate of Emory University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science. He was chemist for Kaiser Agricultural Products for 28 years. He also had a successful career as a chemist for U.S. Customs for 16 years and retired at age 70. He was also a lifelong tree farmer and worked in the logging business for many years. Like his father, he loved his land, trees and spending time at his farm. He was a terrific dancer and was a member of the Starlight Dance Club for many years. He was a member of Isle of Hope United Methodist Church and a member of the Berean Sunday School Class. He loved attending church, singing in the choir, and men’s chorus.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 35 years, Rachel Goff, granddaughter, Jillian Crager, brothers, Raiford and Rooney, sisters, Verma Tillman, LouAlta Tomberlin, and Hazel Thomann.

He is survived by his daughters, Jeanne Crager (Michael), Cathy Clarke (Todd), Julie Yawn (Charles), stepdaughters, Cheryl Longhauser (John), and Geegee Kirkley (Lamar), and numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother, Stanford, and sister, Nita Henderson.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Isle of Hope United Methodist Church.

Burial will be in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Isle of Hope United Methodist Church Endowment Fund.
