May Jehovah give your family the needed strength to cope with the loss of your loved one. Isaiah 65:17

With the passing of Marjy, and now Charles Story, Savannah has lost a bit of gentility and sophistication. Always thoughtful, with gracious words and customs, they were the ultimate host and hostess serving just the right wine with the artfully prepared food. The beautiful table settings were adorned with roses from their bounteous garden. But the most important part of knowing them was their core, that held hearts of faith and love. They were generous with their gifts of time and treasure. Charles served on the Board of Directors of Hope House for several years, lending his wisdom and business acumen. He could bring an end to a circuitous discussion with a few cryptic words. You were not left wondering where he stood on an issue. I remember with fondness, one Hope House Fund Raiser, a Tour of Homes luncheon where Charles and my husband, Jerry, spent a long day cleaning off tables and emptying garbage cans. After putting up the tables and chairs, Charles said, "I had better get home. I want to fix dinner for Marjy". I said, After today! Aren't you tired?" He answered, "Yes, but I only have one wife and I love her, and I want to do something nice for her". That was Charles. Charles leaves four fine sons, Todd, Eric, Matthew and Leo. To each of you, I extend my love and deepest sympathies, and to your wives and children.....my sympathies as well. Your Father's goodness will live on in you and in his grandchildren. God bless you.

- Margaret Dulohery, Tybee Island, GA

Our prayers are with you and the family. I know Charles will be missed by many but know he is at peace now.

- Sandra W. Oliver, Jeff & Sherrie Kemmerer, Newnan, Ga

To the Story Family I send my deepest sympathy. Your mom & dad were the best! Both of them were loved and respected by many friends. May they both be in loving arms of our Heavenly Father. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.

- Anne Antol, Savannah, GA

To Martha (Sis) and Susan and all of the Story family: My sincerest condolences to the family and friends on the passing of Charles. I believe that Charles and I were second cousins, since my Mom - Mary (Chapman) Shepard was Martha Story's sister. Charles and I enjoyed a very warm and sincere relationship when we were able to meet as grown-ups; he was working in Savannah, GA and I was in the Air Force stationed in Savannah at Hunter AFB in the late 1950's. We enjoyed travelling to Atlanta over weekends to see relatives I did not know I had. Charles was a great friend, cousin, companion, and almost like a Brother, since we were only two years apart (me being the younger). Charles had a great zest for life and enjoyed meeting people and introducing me to members of the family tree I did not know. My military career sent me all over the world and I lost contact with Charles. It is with a heavy heart and a sense of loss that I have just found out that Charles has departed this life. My Brother David, called me and told me the news. My thoughts and prayers are with the Story family. Charles was a gentleman and a great friend. Our loss is Heavens gain. Peace be with you Charles. Know that you will be missed. -Kenneth and Shirley Shepard, Decatur, AL

I only remember Charles from our younger years as preteens when he visited our family in Jacksonville, FL. I recall that when he went to the beach he got extremely sunburned (big blisters) and was miserable for a few days. Later, I was aware of his successes in the banking industry and was very proud of his accomplishments at work and in his personal and family life. I know that raising four boys is no easy task but they made him proud. Our prayer is that the family have peace knowing that Charles is at rest with his maker in a special place prepared for him. Special blessings are sent to his family and siblings, Jack, Martha, and Susan.

- David & Norma Shepard, San Antonio, TX

Todd, Eric, Matthew and Leo, I loved my cousin Charlie. 14 years separated us in age. I thought he was so handsome and looked like Pat Boone. My Dad, Uncle Bob, loved your Dad so much. In 1998 Charles made a couple of tickets available to me allowing me to go to final day of Masters. It was an experience I will never forget. We are all better people from knowing and loving the Story Family.

- Lynne Chapman Rich, Boerne, Texas

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I remember going to grandmothers and all the cousins playing together. We all had a good time. We will miss you.

- Jane Garner, Newnan, Ga

I will always remember the Sundays spent at our grandmothers home in Griffin. All of us cousins had great times. I am sure Charles will be discussing the Dawgs with God and pulling them through this fall. We are going to miss you!

- Betty Colwell, Morrow, GA

My sincerest sympathies to Mr. Story's family. I knew him very pleasantly while I worked with him while he served as President of The Coastal Bank. I am a retired Georgia bank examiner. I also "ran into" Mr. Story in Savannah numerous times and he never failed to share a laugh and ask about my family. My wife joins me in extending our sympathy to his family in the loss of this fine southern gentleman.

Leo, Matthew, Eric, and Todd - So sorry to hear of your father's passing. He will always be 40 years old in my mind; that's my strongest memory of him, when we were pre-teens and spent our vacations visiting Savannah, GA. We (the 4 of you and the 3 of us Morrissey kids) ran circles through and around your house during those family gatherings. I always remember your father having this smile on his face, as though he knew something we didn't. I think he liked watching us play, despite your mom's warnings to us that she had "just cleaned this house"! I like to think he knew we would get to experience this with kids of our own one day. Love to you all and all your families. We shall all meet again. - Your cousin, Mary
