Lois Waters Fritts
Passed away on June 15, 2016
Lois Waters Fritts, born July 12, 1931, passed away on June 15, at Savannah Square Health Center after struggling to recover from a stroke. Her husband Ed and her two daughters, Laurie and Cathy, had just said their goodbyes before hand. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, an only child, Lois' family moved to Alabama at age two where she grew up, attended high school and college at Troy State. After college, she served a short stint with the FBI in Washington, D. C., then returned to Alabama and got a job at Fort Rucker. It was there she met the love of her life, Ed, with whom she shared the next 53 wonderful years. During their early years, Ed's work with the US General Accounting Office (currently Government Accountability Office) took them on numerous short term engagements throughout the Southeastern states. During two of these engagements Lois worked part time at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, and at Warner Robins Air Materiel Area, Georgia. They then moved to Northern Virginia in 1969 where she was a dedicated wife and mother, caring for her family for the full time for the next 10 years. In 1979 she started working part time in Washington, D. C. In D. C. where she worked at GAO Headquarters and finally at the Pentagon where she retired in 1990. Lois was an avid bridge player where she achieved Silver Life Master.
She was a wonderful mother for their two daughters who survive her, Laurie Schaaf and husband Tom Schaaf, and Cathy Wall, as well as her 5 grandsons, Dustin, Brian and Henry Schaaf, and Charlie and Sam Wall, who she loved dearly. She is als0 survived by her husband Ed.
A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m., July 11, 2015 at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church.
Remembrances may be given to St. Luke Missionary Hospice, LLC.
