In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Patrick Francis Roughen (Frankie) and sisters Sarah Roughen Williams and Theresa Blanche Roughen. Surviving are two siblings, Col Albert H. Roughen of Savannah and Carolyn Roughen Moye of Ridgeland.

Mary was much more than just a passenger to me and to the rest of the drivers at Kitsap Transit; she had become part of our family. A dear, sweet, unassuming woman, she had an inner strength that few of us possess. We were blessed to have known her. She shared our day to day joys and our sorrows. She always provided a sympathetic ear and wonderful, warm advice. From the encouragements she gave us to the snacks she often shared with the drivers, she embodied the idea of small acts of kindness. Mary touched our lives in many ways. We had grown to love her and will miss her very much. We will always hold her close in our hearts.

As a bus driver from Bremerton, a day was not complete without Mary riding #25 and hearing the stories of her life. Granted I heard the same stories over and over I never grew tired of hearing them. I wish someone would have recorded these stories for her family to hear. She loved you all dearly and it was my pleasure to see her so often

Mary was a joy to be around. I operated a transit bus and got to know her as a regular passenger for several years. She was always upbeat and busy, and always happy to share stories about her family and upbringing in Georgia. She will be greatly missed by many in our area, she was loved by all who knew her.

I was so sorry to learn of Mary's passing. She and I were such good friends at SVA and in the neighborhood. My heart goes out to the family. A great loss.

To All of the Roughen family and the extended family, please accept my deepest sympathies on behalf of all of the White family (Family of Mary Lales White) for the passing of Aunt Mary. I was deeply saddened when I read the news. She was my Godmother and I have fond memories of her and what she did in Korea. She always sent me the most wonderful gifts for my birthday and Christmas when I was younger. I still have them all today and they serve as reminders of her and my big extended family. All of the family are in my prayers during this sad time in our lives.

May Jehovah God, the God of comfort grant you his peace while you await the fulfillment of his promise at John 5:28(to resurrect those who have been asleep in death). May fond memories of Mary Elizabeth linger in your hearts and bring you peace in the days to come.
