Celebrating the life of

DeEtte Williford Kaminsky

April 11, 1934 - June 16, 2016

DeEtte Williford Kaminsky

SAVANNAH - This is a true story of a life well-lived. It’s a story of a strong, courageous woman who seldom missed an opportunity to share her testimony of God’s goodness in her life. Her name was DeEtte Williford Kaminsky, also known as mom, ma-ma and Aunt DeEtte. On June 16, 2016 she moved from her residence at Signature Healthcare, Savannah, to Glory Avenue, Heaven at the ripe old age of 82. Although she lived with Alzheimer’s Disease for the past five years, she radiated the love of God until she took her final breath.

As a member of the East Savannah Church of God, DeEtte wore many hats. She served as church clerk, choir member, Sunday school teacher, lead singer in the church quartet, and director of the youth choir. She loved to arrange flowers, draw, sew and cook. She was a spiritual mentor to many.

DeEtte was cherished for 41 years by her husband, David, who passed away in 1995. There are just no words to express how loved she was by her children and grandchildren. Debbie Welch (Jim), Diane Blazer (Tom) and grandchildren (Sheri & Matt Graham) were with her when she left this world, and what a blessing that was!   We are positive that her son, Danny, who died in a tragic auto accident on June 16, 1970 at the age of 17, was the first one to greet her when she arrived at her new home. DeEtte is also survived by a daughter, Elaine Bezas, of Sterling Heights, Michigan, her sister, Geraldine Sego of Twin City, Georgia and step-grandchildren, Amber Herman (Lonnie) of Bowling Green, Kentucky and Aaron (Catherine) Blazer of Jeffersonville, Indiana.

The going-home celebration for DeEtte will be on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 at Fox & Weeks Hodgson Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00. A private burial service will held on Monday. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Humane Society of Savannah, 7215 Sallie Mood Dr., Savannah, GA 31406 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 201 Television Circle, Savannah, GA 31406.

My condolences to the Kaminsky family my heart is breaking just thinking of all the emotions you are experiencing during this time. Try to remember her laughter and smiling face. She is walking with God, singing and dancing. Every day you will think of her but you will forget she has gone to heaven but only when you are your way to see her. She was my favorite Aunt and I dearly loved her. God be with each of you.

Debbie and Family, I can only imagine the swirl of emotions all of you are feeling. I hope one of those emotions is 'pride.' The commitment the two of you made to your mother's happiness should be a model that all family caregivers are required to study. On a regular basis I marvelled at the many ways you engaged her and went the extra mile by keeping her environment cheery and relevant to the season. Both of you showed your mother, even in her declining condition, the love and closeness you felt for her.

I share your loss as Aunt Dee always had a special place in my heart. My mom used to say she loved her for her honesty and acceptance of her as you know the Kaminsky family never did. I am sure they are sharing time together now. I know the loss you feel as I miss my mother everyday and wish many times I could just talk to her one more time. Your mom was a special person who was loved by many. I think of her with so many good memories. I love all of you. May the lord confort and bless you in this time of great loss.

My sincere condolences to the Kaminski Family on the passing of your dear loved one. May Jehovah God, the God of comfort grant you his peace while you await the fulfillment of his promise at John 5:28(to resurrect those who have been asleep in death). May fond memories of DeEtte linger in your hearts and bring you peace in the days to come.
