Winifred Hamilton Taylor
April 15, 1918 - July 11, 2016
Winifred Mae Taylor, 98 years of age, died peacefully on July 11, 2016 under the care of Spanish Oaks Hospice. She was born on April 15, 1918 in Mount Vernon, Ohio and was raised in Takoma Park, Maryland. Her parents were Dale and Nellie Hamilton, and she had one older sister, Virginia Lewis. In 1936 she married Fred Eugene Taylor (deceased 1993).
Winifred “Winnie” had five daughters, Nancy Evans (Richard), Barbara Platt (Edward), Joan Duggan (Greg), Marilyn Taylor (deceased), and Linda Goldstein (Alan, deceased). She had nine grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
She and Fred spent many years living on the Chesapeake Bay and later moved to Florida by cruising down the Intracoastal Waterway. After passing under the bridge at Skidaway Narrows, she never thought she would live on Skidaway Island and in Savannah for over twenty years.
Throughout her life, Winnie was an accomplished artist painting with acrylics and oils. During her years in Savannah, she loved volunteering at the Salvation Army in their after school tutoring and snacks program for children. She also played in the Bell Choir and participated in many activities at the Skidaway Island United Methodist Church (SIUMC).
A private family service will be held in the chapel at the Skidaway Island United Methodist Church, followed by interment in the Church’s Memorial Garden.
