Celebrating the life of
Ellen Anding Jones
September 29, 1930 - July 16, 2016
Savannah- Ellen Anding Jones, 85, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2016 after a short illness. Ellen was born September 29, 1930, in Fort Lewis, WA, the only child of Colonel James Grafton Anding, and Jane Rehkopf Anding. She spent World War II in Savannah with family while her father was overseas in Europe. Ellen graduated from Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Bethesda, MD. She met Captain Robert Scarritt Jones while her family was living in Naples, Italy; and they were married at Ft. Meyers Chapel in Arlington, VA, in 1952.
She was both a proud Army brat and a proud Navy wife. Living in such far-flung locations as Naples, London, Boston, and Yokohama fostered a lifelong love for travel. Prior to moving to Savannah in 1997, she lived in McLean, VA, for 12 years and Northern, VA, for over 30 years. She was a Communicant of St. James Catholic Church in Savannah.
While always presenting herself with the grace and dignity that her upbringing and military life instilled, she was also exceedingly warm and caring to family and friends alike.
Surviving are her son, Robert S. Jones, Jr. and his wife, Pamela S. Jones of Clifton, VA; daughter, Kathryn A. Clarke and her husband, R. Michael Clarke of Greenwood, SC; seven grandchildren, Brian P. Clarke of Charleston, SC; Alison Clarke Howard and her husband, L. King Howard, III, of Charlotte, NC; Caroline M. Clarke of Hoover, AL; Robert S. Jones, III, and his wife, Meghan R. Jones of Stafford, VA; Ashley E. Jones of Arlington, VA; Katherine P. Jones of Clifton, VA; Colin G. Jones of Clifton, VA; one great-granddaughter, Piper W. Jones of Stafford, VA, and her beloved dog, Sophie.
The funeral service at Arlington National Cemetery will be announced later.
Our Blessings and Prayers to Ellen's family. Ellen and her husband Bob were so dear to us when we all first arrived at the Landings as retirees. Ellen was a sweet gentle person and friend. We enjoyed talking about her and our "old" Bethesda days and hearing her Garfinckle stories. She is missed.

My condolences to the Jones Family on the passing of your loved one. MAY Jehovah God grant you his peace while you await the fulfillment of his promise at John 5:28 [ to resurrect those who have been asleep in] May fond memories of Ellen linger in your hearts and bring you peace in the days to come.

From the time that I met Ellen and Bob, through our mutual friends Marge and Art Miller, there was a special bond that continued and grew through the years. Ellen was so smart, sweet, caring, and always fun to be with. I shall miss our long phone conversations about family and life in general. They were awesome friends. Rest in Peace. Sending Blessings and Prayers to the Family .

With heavy hearts we join in the realization that Ellen Jones has gone on ahead of us and we celebrate her life of grace and charm. We are especially grateful for the 65 years of shared military and travel adventures that have enriched our lives and kept us close over the years. It is our hope to join those who loved Ellen at the ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery where she will be honored and joined again with her husband, Bob. We wish God's blessings for each of her family and loved ones.
