Celebrating the life of

Deborah Bethune "Debbie" Huncke

January 17, 1957 - August 04, 2016

"I have fought the good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith."

Deborah Bethune

SAVANNAH - Deborah Bethune “Debbie” Huncke, 59, went to be with the Lord Thursday, August 4, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. She indeed could say, as Paul did in II Timothy 4:7, “I have fought the good fight.  I have finished my course. I have kept the faith.” Born in Savannah, Debbie graduated from Armstrong University and went on to a career in information technology at Gulfstream before working at Georgia Ports Authority for several years where she had many caring friends.

Debbie was a devoted member of Grace Church of the Islands and was so loved by all who knew her there as well as being loved by her family, friends, and co-workers.  She was a faithful Christian who loved the Lord and she was a gentle and kind spirit.  She also had a generous spirit and loved baking lots of sweet treats for others which brought them joy.

Debbie had great faith, trust, and hope in the Lord and she was a great inspiration.  She and her winning smile, positive attitude, and loving heart will be missed by her family and all those whose lives she so enriched.

She is survived by her daughter, Rachel Huncke and Rachel’s husband, Anthony Hodge, and son, Cameron Hodge; mother, Jewell Lyles Bethune; two brothers, Richard (Menda) Bethune, and Don (Sharon) Bethune; two sisters, Barbara (Steven) Shroyer, and Sabrina (Jake) Waters; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Eugene Bethune.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Remembrances may be made to Grace Church of the Islands, 6901 Concord Rd., Savannah, GA 31410.
