Celebrating the life of
Emily "Pat" Hoffman
December 13, 1920 - August 26, 2016
Emily Patrick “Pat” Hoffman, 95, died Friday, August 26, 2016 in Savannah. She was a native of Savannah and also lived in Lancaster, PA for many years with her late husband, Richard. She was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and, while in college, was a member of the Carolina Playmakers where she first discovered her love of the stage. Early in her acting career, Pat worked as professional actress in New York City and entertained troops for the USO. Later, she worked as both an actress and a drama and speech teacher in Lancaster, PA, as well as Savannah. She was a co-founder and co-director of the Actor’s Company of Pennsylvania, which encouraged and supported amateur and community theater projects in the state. Upon returning to Savannah she became an active member of Epworth United Methodist Church and, later, the Wilmington Island United Methodist Church, where she organized and directed plays for theater groups of both churches. Pat served as a docent for many years at the Andrew Lowe house in Savannah. She was also a member of AAUW (American Association of University Women) and a P.E.O. sister.
Pat was an avid reader, loyal friend, movie lover, gardener, beachcomber and conversationalist, and put great effort into improving her bridge playing with two regular bridge groups. On top of her obvious theatrical interests, she had a great love for the beach at Tybee Island and shared fond memories of dances at the old pavilion and riding with her grandfather on the train that once served the beach. She was loved for her vivacity and grace by family and friends alike.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Deborah Hoffman, of Norwell, MA; her grandchildren, Miriam Sharma, of Dallas TX, Amanda Hoffman, of Washington, DC, and Guy Hoffman, of Norwell, MA, one great-grandchild, Devani Sharma, of Dallas, TX and many devoted friends. She joins her late husband Richard, and daughter Charlotte Davis, in eternal peace.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Dear family of Pat Hoffman- we will dearly miss our friend and mentor Pat. It is a honor to have known her and to do theater work with her. May your days of sadness grow short and your days of filled memories of this dear lady keep coming to you in your need of loss. I, Rich, dearly loved Pat and we most terribly miss her but know she lived a full and beautiful life with a beautiful family there for her. Love, Rich and Kris

Pat was not only the lead in, "Driving Miss Daisy," she was, "Miss Daisy." What a talented actress, director, and loyal friend. She was the strongest lady who knew how to laugh and cry, beat you in bridge, entertain, and make you think you were at The Ritz Carlton. What an angel God has. He is blessed and so were we!

Sending sympathy to the entire family. Years ago when you lived on E. King St. I lived on E. Grant St. Remember your family very well, use to play with Charlotte although I am older. Your mom was a great lady, I tried to keep up with her play activity through the newspaper writings. The children in the neighborhood once did a play together, it was such fun. So am sorry she is gone but I know you will have wonderful memories of her Sincerely, LaVerne Hoover Hanna

Dear family, I was a long time neighbor of Pat & Dick's when they lived on East Orange Street in Lancaster. They were at 322, I was at 320. I couldn't have asked for better neighbors. They were both always so kind and two of the nicest people. I missed them when they moved to Savannah. Pat gifted me a book on the history of East Orange Street when they left. Pat and I also exchanged Christmas cards for many years. I had not received one for the last couple of years and was wondering about her. She was a lady in the true sense of the word. I was fortunate to have known both her and Dick. Please accept my most sincere condolences.
