Mary Louise Brunson Claiborne

Mary Louise Brunson Claiborne 98; widow of Jord Benton Claiborne, passed away on Friday September 2, 2016 at home under the care of Hospice Savannah, surrounded by her daughter and grandchildren.  Mrs. Claiborne was born on February 16, 1918 in Brunson, SC to the late Thaddeus Walter Brunson and Inez Folk Brunson.  She was raised in Brunson, SC and graduated from Brunson High School at 16 in 1934.  She moved to Savannah when she was about 20 years old.  She performed secretarial work for numerous offices around Savannah through the years.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Savannah where she served as a lifetime deacon, being one of the first two females appointed to this position.  She touched the lives of countless children as a Sunday school teacher.  She was an avid reader, enjoyed needlework, and was a lifelong sports enthusiast.  She was a member of the Grace and Glory Mission group and volunteer at Emmaus House.

The family would like to give special thanks to the following for all they've done in the last couple of years:  Annie, Gwen, and all of the caring Hospice staff especially Liz, Pat, Nyree, Kim and Sally.

Preceded by her parents, husband, brothers Walter (Berta) & Jack Brunson, and son-in-law Robert T. Thompson Jr.

Survivors include her daughter Annette C. Thompson of Tybee Island; granddaughter Felicia L. Thompson of Ashburn, Va; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Robert Theron "Trey" Thompson III and Erin D. Thompson of Tybee Island; and great-granddaughters Macy M. Thompson and Brooke E. Thompson of Tybee Island.  Many neices and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 pm to 2:30 pm at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel, with funeral service at 2:30pm.  Burial will follow the funeral at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hospice Savannah Inc., P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.
