Celebrating the life of

Thomas Robert Hurst, Jr.

October 09, 1946 - October 24, 2016

Loving and Devoted Husband & Father, Doting Grandfather and Proud Serviceman

Thomas Robert Hurst, Jr.

Thomas R. Hurst, Jr., 70, died unexpectedly on October 24, 2016. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He had a joyful spirit and loved making people laugh.

He was born on October 9, 1946 in Connersville, Indiana to Sarah (Hinson) and Thomas R. Hurst. He married Sandra Farley Hurst on July 18, 1970. This loving union gave birth to a daughter, Lisa, and a son, Tommy. Tom was a loving and involved husband and father. He also was a dog lover, and will be greatly missed by his dog, Buddy. Tom and Buddy were often seen walking the neighborhood.

Tom served 4 years in the United States Airforce, and several years in the Georgia National Guard. He worked at Dan Vaden Chevrolet in the parts department for over 20 years. He loved the military and all things associated with it. Due to his work at Dan Vaden, he had a passion and know-how about cars. His family often called him about car troubles, and he always knew how to fix it. His favorite thing to remind us was to never let the gas tank go below a quarter.

Tom also loved to work with his hands. He was a great craftsman and wood-worker. We will miss the cradles and bookshelves that he built for us.

Tom had many passions and loves. First, and most importantly, was his love for the Lord. He lived in a way that honored God.. Next, he loved his family. His other passions and loves include: Jaguar football, his garden, singing country music (always stay humble and kind), and taking naps. Tom would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it

He will be greatly missed by all. His laugh, smile, and attitude were cherished and unique to him. His time here on Earth was precious and well-spent. He has left behind a great legacy that will forever be remembered.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra F. Hurst, a daughter Lisa Hurst Lanier (Jerry Lanier) and a son Thomas R. Hurst III (Madison Burke), all from Savannah, GA. He also has 5 grandchildren, Kaitlyn Lanier, Jessica Lanier, Sarah Lanier, Jeremy Lanier, and Chloe Grace Hurst. Tom also has 4 sisters, Wanda Stohry (Bill), Joyce Smith (Mike), Angie Cirgin, and Sandy Adams (Ron).
