Clyde H. Rhines

Clyde Hastings Rhines, Jr., 81, died November 7, 2016, at home.  He was the son of the late Clyde and Marion Rhines.  Born on October 19, 1935, in Savannah, he graduated from Georgia Military Academy in 1953 and matriculated shortly thereafter at Alabama Polytechnic Institute where he obtained a degree in Ornamental Horticulture after 7 short adventure filled years.  He loved Auburn University and was a faithful Tiger until the day he died….in his Auburn t-shirt.  War Eagle!  In 1957, he married Penny Ann Boyd, with whom he shared 59 wonderful years.  He joined his family in their business and operated Rhines Florist and Nursery until his retirement in 1999.  He served his Lord and Savior faithfully throughout his lifetime.  He was a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, mentor and friend to hundreds of brothers and sisters in Christ at Southside Baptist Church for 50 years.  He served with the Gideons International ministry for several years.

In addition to Penny, he is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Johnny Sheehan, Anna and Tim Adams, Lori and Paul Mobley; five grandchildren, Brooke and Chris Hodges, Katie and Jacob Lane, Caroline and Joseph McGrath, Jonathan Mobley, Molly Rose and Frank Tucker; and six great grandchildren Duncan, Hannah and Addison Hodges, Gabriel Richards, Chloe and Aubrey McGrath.  He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Hannah and Penn Mobley.  He is also survived by a sister, Gloria Saxon, and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Southside Baptist Church, 5502 Skidaway Road.

A celebration of his life will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Southside Baptist Church.
