Celebrating the life of
Joan Greene Wheeler
September 14, 1934 - October 25, 2016
Joan G. Wheeler, 82, died October 25, 2016 at her home in Savannah, GA.
Born September 14, 1934 in Washington, D.C., she graduated from Anacostia High School and attended Strayer Business College. Although she always said that the only job that she ever wanted was to be a wife and mother, she worked in the autopsy unit at Children’s Hospital and as a secretary in Senator Lyndon Baines Johnson’s office. She moved to Alexandria, VA in 1957 shortly after she married Larry M. Wheeler whom she had met six months earlier at a party. A proud feminist and consummate housewife, she was also part of the Alexandria Junior Woman’s Club and made lifelong friends there. An avid attender of garage sales, antique shops, and auctions, she filled her home with exquisite “finds” as well as order and love. Joan and Larry retired to Savannah in 2000; she oversaw the building of her dream house, watched the lagoon birds, read novels, and joined a group of women who daily maintained several colonies of well fed, spayed and neutered feral cats, six of whom she adopted. Her daughter Roxann Wheeler survives her.
The memorial service will be Friday, November 18 at 4 PM in the chapel at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation either to the Skidaway Cat Program or to the Guiding Eyes for the Blind.

My condolences to the Wheeler family in this difficult time. It's very hard to cope with the loss of someone we love so dearly. But the Bible gives us a sure hope for the future. We all look forward to Jehovah fulfilling the promise at Revelation 21:3,4. The promise to do away with death forever here on the earth. Also the wonderful hope of seeing our love ones again (John 5:28,29).
