Paul Emerson Waters, Jr.
February 22, 1943 - November 30, 2016
SAVANNAH – Paul Emerson Waters, Jr., 73, passed away peacefully at his home in Savannah, GA on Wednesday, November 30, 2016.
He was born in Savannah, GA on February 22, 1943 to Paul Emerson Waters, Sr. and Mary Olliff Waters. He attended Savannah High for two years before graduating from Georgia Military College. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from The University of Georgia.
After graduating from college, he joined the United States Air Force during Vietnam. He later went on to work many years in the hosiery and textile industry before ultimately going out on his own, owning and operating multiple different successful business ventures before retiring last year. Along with his wife, he was an active member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Ascension for over 36 years; serving on the council, various committees and even acting as treasurer in recent years. For many years, Paul was enthusiastically involved with the Savannah Lyons Club. He was an avid Georgia football fan and enjoyed nothing more than an afternoon on the dock surrounded by his family.
In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by his wife and soulmate of 53 years, Lillian Christine “Christy” Ross Waters, and a grandchild, Hewitt Ross Waters. He is survived by children, Louisa Waters, Emerson (Brandi) Waters and Ross (Hayley) Waters; grandchildren, Russ, Jackson and Lillie Hightower, Sawyer, Tinsley and Grace Waters, and Mills Waters; all of Savannah.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm until 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Ascension with a funeral service immediately following at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at 4:00 pm at Greenwich Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests any remembrances be made in his memory to the Historic Restoration Fund of The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Ascension, 6 East State Street, Savannah, GA 31401.
So very sorry to hear of Paul"s passing. Paul Sr. And my step grandfather, John Wesley Waters, were brothers. I have many memories and many old black and white photos of my brother, Charles Waters and Paul, on my grandparents dock at Rio Vista. I spoke with Paul in 2009 shortly after I moved back to Savannah., and we were able to catch up on many things. He was always a great guy. My heartfelt sympathy to all of you.
