Philip F. Kirk died November 21, 2016 under Hospice Care at Spanish Oaks Rrtreat. Philip was born March 4, 1925 in Challis, ID, the son of John and Florence Burstedt Kirk. His parents predeceased him as did his only sibling, his sister, Francis Kirk Cole.
Philip was educated in Challis and Shelly, ID. He earned a bachelor’s degree in bio-chemistry at the University of California at Berkley, a master’s degree in international business from the School of Global Management in Phoenix, AZ, and an MBA from John Carroll Univ. in Cleveland, OH. He was a naval officer during World War II and the Korean conflict.
His working career began with Proctor and Gamble International in Canada. Then followed assignments in Manila, Philippines; Surabaja, Indonesia; and Geneva; Switzerland. In 1964 he joined Harshaw Chemical Company in Cleveland, OH in the International Division. He retired from the company as president.
In 1955 he married Sigrid Schjerven of Junction City, KS in a ceremony at the American Church in Manila. Their daughter, Karilan, was born in Geneva.
In 1987 Phil and Sigrid moved to The Landings. Phil was involved in Kiwanis and was on the board of the Savannah Council of the Navy League. He became dedicated to St. John’s Church on Madison Square. He was president of the Men’s Club, served on the vestry and was a docent at the Green-Meldrim House. He was also on the board of The Prayer Book Society.
Phil is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sigrid, his daughter, Kari McPartland and husband, Jim, of Dover, MA, their son Brendan McPartland of New York City and daughter, Allison McPartland of Boston, a niece, Debra Crowell of Gilbert, AZ and family, and a niece, Phyllis French of Lubbock, TX, and family.
The service of burial liturgy will be Monday, December 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Church, (Episcopal). A reception will follow at the Green-Meldrim House. Interment will be at the church.
