Kojo Afenyi-Annan

Kojo Afenyi-Annan, AKA “Guy Green”, age 75, of The Landings at Skidaway Island, Savannah, GA died unexpectedly on Wednesday October 9, 2019.
Kojo was one of those rare individuals whose life reflected his values: a deep, abiding love of family; a commitment to creating and nurturing relationships; strong, unshakable, integrity; dedication to excellence; and a belief that life should be fun. A prolific reader and scholar who spoke multiple languages, traveled extensively throughout the world, and had friends from all walks of life – he was a true renaissance man. Friendly with everyone, he had the uncanny ability to connect intimately with anyone. He was known for his enthusiastic enjoyment of life, heartfelt kindness, and radiant sense of humor. His ready smile, gentle teasing, and ability to laugh at himself made being in his presence fun and joyful. He gathered an ever-expanding network of family, friends, and anyone in need of a little more love.
Born January 3, 1944 in Saltpond, Ghana, West Africa, Kojo attended secondary school at Mfantsipim, an all-boys boarding school in Cape Coast, Ghana. He received his Bachelor’s degree in English with distinction from the University of Ghana, a Master’s degree at St. Frances Xavier University in Nova Scotia, Canada, and an MBA from Central Michigan University. He began his professional life as a schoolteacher, teaching English at Dinthill High School in Linstead, Jamaica for two years before immigrating to the United States in 1973. His gift for communicating led to a job with General Motors (GM) as a supply chain manager at Fisher Body in Trenton, NJ, then at Buick Division in Flint, MI. In 1990 he left GM to take a position as VP of manufacturing at Rhe-Tech, then briefly to Xerox Corporation in Rochester, NY before completing his career with the Eaton Corporation, retiring in 2007.
In 2007, Kojo and his wife moved to Savannah where he enjoyed traveling, golfing, watching University of Michigan football, and spoiling his grandkids. He was an avid cook who loved to prepare meals for family and friends. Kojo was an active member in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church serving on various committees, and enjoyed volunteering as a mediator for Savannah Mediation Center. He took great care of his health, working out regularly and crushing competitors half his age in FitBit Challenges, earning him the affectionate title “The King”.
A devoted husband, Kojo is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Theodora (Teddi) Baaba Afenyi-Annan, whom he adored with every ounce of his being. His love and devotion embraced two beautiful daughters Araba Afenyi-Annan and Adwowa Afenyi-Annan and two wonderful grandchildren Ama and Kwame Mensah-Boone, ages 13 and 11, respectively. His warmth and loving embrace extended to numerous “sons and daughters” he adopted throughout his life, and to friends and colleagues; he will be missed dearly.
A Memorial Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, October 18, 2019 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel, 7200 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at St. Francis of the Islands Episcopal Church, 500 Walthour Road, Savannah, GA.
I am so sorry to hear of his passing. We think often about the family. He was a good friend. Cheri and I had thought about trying to find you on the way to Florida. Our condolences to the family.

In the short amount of time I was fortunate enough to know Kojo, his warmth, humor, and kindness were overflowing. He will be greatly missed. He was so kind as to bring over a card when my girlfriend's grandmother passed away, and after hurricane Dorian he made a key lime pie and scones for us. If you ever need anything please do not hesitate to ask. Rest in Peace Kojo. We will miss you.

Kojo was a mentor of mine from Saltpond Methodist School and Methodist Church to Mfantsipim School in Cape Coast. He was very intellectually generous and kind to me. I kept his notes on Shax, as we used to call Wm Shakespeare, for years. Then we lost track of each other when he went to Canada and I to the UK. Unfortunately, years later, I wanted to reach back to him with my eternal gratitude, only to discover that he had passed away. I see the radiance of his family and I know from that profile a legacy that is priceless.
