Celebrating the life of

Daniel Chaing-Chen Wu

December 08, 1954 - May 19, 2017

Daniel Chaing-Chen Wu

Daniel Chaing-Chen Wu, 62, of Savannah, GA, passed away peacefully at home on May 19 after fighting a long battle with cancer.

A private service will be held graveside for the family.

Daniel was born in Savannah to John Bing-Jun Wu and Lancy T.C. Sheng Wu on December 8, 1954. He was a graduate of Sol C. Johnson High School and attended Armstrong State College.

He worked in the family business as an operator and cook extraordinaire at the Canton Restaurant in Downtown Savannah and was a staple for many years at the “eggroll door” during the annual St. Patrick’s Day parades. He later operated a small grocery and concluded his career working for the Morrison family at Crossroads Shopping Center.

Daniel was an avid fisherman, boater and hunter during his lifetime and could be found out on the water, in the woods or, literally, up a tree.  He especially enjoyed taking long naps, eating sandwiches and watching for deer with his hunting buddies at Fort Stewart. He is on record with the “Largest Hog Killed” - Fort Stewart W.M.A. 90-91 Season, F15 Area.

He enjoyed football and was known for his Super Bowl parties and oyster roasts, but became more of a quiet fan later in life, rooting for either the Carolina Panthers for his daughter or for the Atlanta Falcons - depending on who was winning!

He was a lover of animals and supporter of the Islands Feral Cat Project and had quite the knack for building “cat condos.” He especially loved his cat, Darren, and his granddogs, Lucy Wu and Mimmy.

Daniel had a sharp mind and could fix nearly anything you brought him. From being able to identify what was wrong with your car without even seeing it to designing a motorized watering cart for the flowers, his ingenuity knew no bounds.

More at home at the kids table than with the adults, he was a consummate entertainer and always wanted to be sure that everyone around him had a good time - from taking his nieces and nephews to play Putt-Putt and video games, to wake-boarding and watching movies.

He is preceded in death by both his father and his mother.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Cheryl Guthrie Wu; his daughter, Jen Wu; his devoted nephew, Jeff Chu; his step-daughter, Angela Scales Manous and her husband, Jason; step-daughter, Kimberly Scales; his sister, Diana Wu Chu, and her husband, Shao Ping Chu; his brother, P.C. Wu, and his wife, Judi; his nieces and nephews, Christopher Wu, Ashley Wu Fennell, Erica Li-Wei Chu, Alex Chu and his fiancée, Tanya Tang.

My sincerest condolences go out to your family, it's never easy losing someone in death. May you take comfort in God's promise found at Revelation 21:4, which says "he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” This verse brought me peace when I experienced loss, I hope it can do the same for you. May the memories you have give you strength during this difficult time.

I am very sorry for the lost of your loved one, Mr. Wu. Please find comfort in The Bible's resurrection accounts that give us a sure hope that our dead loved ones will have the opportunity to live again in peaceful and happy conditions, and there will be no more sickness. (John 5:28,29); (Isaiah 33:24)

- Sincerely, Nita and Family , ,

I am so sorry about the loss of your dear love one. We all know that the sting of death is very painful, however, Almighty God promise that soon death will be swallowed up forever along with the pain and sorrow it brings. (Isaiah 25:8) As for the many that have fallen asleep in death, he promise that they will be ressurrected to life, here on earth. ( John 5: 28,29; Psalms 37: 29) May this hope along with the wonderful memories you have of Daniel helps you to cope.

I knew Daniel in my high school years. He was kind, funny and always the gentleman. We reconnected on FB about 4 years ago. We shared our love of cats, and some other interests, but not hunting. We agreed to disagree on that one. His kindness, generosity of spirit and that big Daniel Wu smile will always be remembered. I wish Daniel's family, especially Jen, who he was so proud of, comfort and God's Peace.

losing Daniel is a great loss. We enjoyed many hours together hunting eating and telling stories. He was very resourceful and often would offer solutions to problems we might be dealing with. Always considerate of others feelings and willing to help whenever possible. He always joked he would make me great again but the only thing great was knowing him. I miss and loved him. A big loss

We are so very sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, I only had one meeting with your dear father, Jennifer. I knew that he was a great man, however, due to him raising such a kind, responsible and loving daughter. Jennifer, you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Our deepest condolences to the Wu family and Cousin Diana. We will all miss Daniel, a most kind and gentle man who left us too soon. I wish to share my version of "Funeral Blues" -- Stop all the clocks, cut off the cell phone, Prevent the cat from meowing with a juicy fish, Silence the cars and with muffled drum Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come. He was my cousin, my childhood friend, my co-conspirator, Our working week and our Sunday rest, Our fisherman, our cat lover, our hunter, our mechanic; I thought that his kindness would last forever: I was wrong. The stars are not wanted now; put out every one, Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun, Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood; For nothing now can ever come to any good.
