Celebrating the life of
Rose Brady Carter
Passed away on June 10, 2017
Rose Brady Carter, 94, passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at Spanish Oaks Hospice in Savannah, Ga.
Rose was a Savannah native and lifelong resident. Growing up near Troup Square, she attended St. Vincent’s Grammar School and was a 1941 graduate of Commercial High School, where she excelled on the girls' basketball team. In 1949, Rose married Clarke Carter, and they enjoyed a beautiful life together until his death in 2001. Before she became a mother, Rose worked as a secretary for the federal government at Fort Stewart and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. She was a homemaker for most of her life - raising four children - and was employed by Weight Watchers in the 1980s.
Affectionately called Meme by her family, Rose relished in what truly matters: family, friends, faith, and life's simple pleasures such as golf, dancing, the outdoors and Southern food.
Rose was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church and served on the Parish Council and managed Eucharistic ministers and lectors. For many years, she and her husband Clarke taught square dancing to students at St. Peter the Apostle School (formerly Nativity) and led the infamous cake walk at the church's annual Seafood Supper. In 2002, the Catholic Diocese of Savannah awarded Rose with its prestigious Bishop Gartland Service Award.
Rose loved being outdoors, walking her neighborhood, spending days at Tybee Beach, and hosting family oyster roasts in her Isle of Armstrong backyard. For decades, she played golf and Bridge at the Savannah Golf Club. Rose loved all things dancing; she and Clarke spent years square dancing in Savannah and around the Southeast, and they were elegant ballroom dancers.
A Savannah Square resident for 10 years, Rose was known for her golf putting skills and was the Queen of Bingo. Rose's family expresses their sincere gratitude to the staffs at Savannah Square’s Palmetto Inn, Hospice Savannah, and Spanish Oaks Hospice who graciously provided Rose with constant care and compassion.
Rose was preceded in death by her husband Clarke; her parents Thomas Brady and Ellen Kelly Brady; and siblings Ellen "Nellie" Brady Moore, John "Jack" Brady, Anne Brady Cooper and Thomas Brady, Jr.
Rose is survived by her daughter Rose Mary Carter Cone (Jim) of Savannah; her sons Clarke Carter (Peggy) of McDonough, Ga., Brady Carter (Lynn) of Chicago, Ted Carter (Tina) of Tucker, Ga.; grandchildren Zack Carter, Elizabeth Cone Katz (Ryan), Emily Carter Little (Seth), Chris Cone (Debra), Kayla Carter, and Bria Carter; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sister Mary Louise Brady Larison of Brookhaven, Pa., and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with the Rosary Service at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Fox & Weeks, Islands Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 16, 2017 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.
Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery.
Remembrances can be made to St. Peter the Apostle Church (www.saintpetertheapostle.com) and Hospice Savannah (www.hospicesavannah.org)

This lady. I know mostly of her legacy from her beautiful granddaughter, Elizabeth, one of my oldest and dearest friends. Miss Rose Mary remains a mentor mom and a beloved friend. The legacy this beauty left reaches far beyond what I'm sure she even imagined. Fervent prayers for her sweet family and all those who loved her. You've all got a heckuva guardian angel now. ?
