Celebrating the life of

Betty Jean McAuliffe

Passed away on June 11, 2017

Betty Jean McAuliffe

SAVANNAH- Betty Jean McAuliffe, 82, passed away peacefully Sunday at Candler Hospital, surrounded by her family.

She was born June 1, 1935 in Mullins, SC and grew up mostly in North Charleston, SC where she attended school, before moving to Savannah where she spent the rest of her life becoming an active community member.

She was an active member of the Savannah Jaycettes where she spearheaded the famous “Kiddie Fair”, served as a German Country Club Ladies Auxiliary officer and American Legion Auxiliary officer, where she was also known as a “frequent poker machine jackpot winner”.  She spent most of her time enjoying life with her husband of 59 years, Charles, whom she met when he was stationed in Charleston while in the U.S. Navy. They moved to Savannah shortly after marriage and raised their two sons Charles (Chuck), and Pat. She enjoyed the many family and social events like Little League baseball, Cub Scouts, and especially the German Country Club where she liked cooking at the pool grill, cheering on the bowlers, or just shelling peas under the shed at the pool. She was especially proud of her grandchildren, Kelli and Kevin and loved taking them all over town.

She was predeceased by her mother Bertha H. Tester, and her husband and love of her life, Charles J. McAuliffe, Jr.

Surviving are her, son Charles (Chuck) McAuliffe III, son and daughter-in-law Pat and Lynn McAuliffe, grandchildren, Kelli and Matt Blackman, and Kevin McAuliffe, brother and sister-in-law David Arthur and Margaret Tester. Niece Leslie Krauk and nephew David Tester.

There will be a private burial service at the Catholic Cemetery.

My sincerest condolences go out to your family, it's never easy losing someone in death. May you take comfort in God's promise found at Revelation 21:4, which says "he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” This verse brought me peace when I experienced loss, I hope it can do the same for you. May the memories you have give you strength during this difficult time.
