Celebrating the life of
Allan Gray Griffith
July 30, 1942 - November 28, 2026
Allan Gray Griffith, age 84, of Savannah, GA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 28, surrounded by his family. Allan was the only child of loving parents Ala Mae Gray and Wilbert Griffith. He was born on July 30, 1942, in Memphis, TN, where he graduated from East High School, studied at Southwestern (Rhodes) College, and joined Kappa Sigma Fraternity, where he remained an enthusiastic member through his graduation from Memphis State University (University of Memphis). Committed to helping others, Allan became a board-certified professional counselor and Administrator of the Child Support Bureau at the Shelby County Juvenile Court, where he served children and their families for over thirty years. He was a member of the Memphis Scottish Society where he was editor of their newsletter Grace Notes.
Allan was a devoted husband, adoring father and grandfather (aka Baba), caring uncle and godfather, and loving father-in-law. He was an avid fly fisherman and birdwatcher, blue-ribbon-winning photographer, as well as a keen camper, scouting leader, jazz enthusiast, bibliophile, dog lover, soup maker, bread baker, and trout gourmet. Despite being a golf tournament novice, he once hit a hole-in-one. Noted for his rich Delta drawl, he was always ready with a story and a smile. Quick-witted and open-hearted, Allan was a loyal friend.
In high school, Allan met his future wife at Second Presbyterian Church. Sixty years later they moved to Savannah, where he enjoyed nothing more than spending time with Elaine, listening to his sons talk shop, chatting with friends at Harmony, cheating at games with Audrey, and watching Blue perform onstage.
Allan is survived by his wife Elaine Hussey Page; sons, Robert Allan Griffith (Tiffany) and Lee Page Griffith (Katie); grandchildren, Blue Griffith and Audrey Virginia Gray Griffith, all of Savannah; sister-in-law, Betty Page Gandy, and brother-in-law, James Page, both of Memphis; nieces, Ashley Bugg Brown (Marques), Page Gandy, and Chris Gandy all of Memphis, and Virginia Gandy Connors (Craig) of Reddick, Florida; goddaughter, Eleanor Heins of Indianapolis; and many cherished cousins and family friends.
A celebration of life will be held at a date and location to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Over the Moon Savannah (otmdiaperbank.org) or the charity of the donor’s choice.
