Celebrating the life of

Benny Keith Jones, Sr.

December 29, 1943 - October 10, 2026

Benny Keith Jones, Sr.

Benny Keith Jones, Sr., 82, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away on October 10, 2026.

Benny was born on December 29, 1943, in Dublin, Georgia, to Lemuel Carlton Jones and Vera Lamb Jones, and grew up in nearby Cedar Grove. He graduated from Southern Polytechnic State University in 1969 with a degree in civil engineering.

Over a long career, Benny helped build some of the Lowcountry’s most cherished communities. He began with The Sea Pines Company and Hilton Head Plantation, then worked for The Branigar Organization at The Landings in Savannah, International Paper at Haig Point on Daufuskie Island, and Union Camp at Oldfield. He went on to Palmetto Bluff and then Wexford Plantation on Hilton Head, before completing his career with the Town of Bluffton. As an infrastructure manager and senior construction manager, he took great pride in shaping the places so many families, including his own, call home.

Benny was a consummate helper who could fix just about anything. Whether it was family, friends, or co-workers, if someone needed a hand, he was already on his way. He loved hunting, fishing, woodworking, and any project that needed an extra set of hands, and his fried shrimp was famous. Anyone who called him was greeted with a warm, Southern “Yellow,” and if you mumbled, you could count on a “Huh?”

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jacquelyn “Jackie” Jones, with whom he would have celebrated 62 years of marriage on October 24; his children, Molly Jones Collins (Greg), Benny K. “Ben” Jones, Jr. (Shae), and Jacquelyn Jones Sellers (Nick); and his grandchildren, Anna and Caleb Collins, Benjamin and Curry Jones, and Jack, Nicholas, and Anna Sellers.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Carl Jones.

A visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2026, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m., at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel, 7200 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Global Lyme Alliance (globallymealliance.org) or Georgia Hospice Care (georgiahospicecare.com).
