Wynton Jackson Ezelle

Wynton Jackson Ezelle

Savannah, GA – Mr. Wynton Jackson “Jack” Ezelle passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026, with family at his residence in Savannah.

Jack was born in Augusta, Georgia and was the son of Wynton Holmes Ezelle and Meriam Pitts Ezelle.   He was a graduate of Richmond Academy, attended Valdosta State University and enlisted in the US Navy in 1969.   Jack graduated from George Washington University while serving in the US Navy in Norfolk, Virginia and was proud to serve as an Aviation Physiology Technician. Upon his discharge from the Navy, Jack moved to Charlotte, North Carolina to begin a forty-year career with Xerox Corporation and where he raised his family before moving to Savannah in 1998.

Jack had many lifelong friendships who served as the foundation of his family.  He was an avid sportsman and spent most weekends outdoors with his sons and close family friends.  While in Norfolk he especially enjoyed days spent on the water sailing his Windmill in numerous regattas with Ragnild.  Jack later enjoyed offshore fishing out of Sunset Beach, Fripp Island and Savannah.  His pursuit of both fin and feather was more about time spent with others and raising their families together than keeping tally of the quarry.

Jack approached all things in life with a high level of character, discipline and commitment, traits that were engrained in him during his formative years at Camp Sea Gull on the Neuse River in Arapahoe, North Carolina. His unwavering commitment to friends and family also translated to his recreational activities.  The mission must be accomplished no matter what minor adversity may stand in the way.  This meant that on Saturdays during the spring and summer we were going offshore fishing, no matter the weather forecast.  This only contributed to the lore of participating in a fishing trip with Capt. Jack at the helm of one of the many boats he owned over the years, all of which bore the name “E-Z Side”.  Big smiles, laughs, soaked ride-ins, and a few “chilly brews” were always indicative of one of these wonderful Saturdays spent on the ocean.

In his retirement years Jack became a USCG Licensed Charter Captain and enjoyed days on the water providing tours of the waterways in and around Savannah near his home on Grove Point. He adhered more closely to the weather forecast when operating in an “official” capacity.  He was a lifelong clay shooter and spent several years mentoring youth at Forest City Gun Club.  His love for the outdoors, and his willingness to introduce others to fishing and hunting, gave many young people the chance to fall in love with the outdoors just as he had.

He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, the Cotillion Club, Chatham Dove Club, Forest City Gun Club, Savannah Downtown Rotary, Sons of the Revolution in the State of Georgia, and the Oglethorpe Club.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Ragnild Speer Ezelle and sons, Charles J. Ezelle (Carolyn) and Stephen D. Ezelle (Sarah Catherine). Also surviving are his grandchildren; Katherine, Jackson, Charlotte and Cate as well as his favorite dog, Scout.

The family extends its heartfelt thanks and gratitude to his and Ragnild’s caregivers Cynthia Holmes and Geneva Pinkney along with Hospice Savannah.

As he requested, a graveside funeral service will be held at Greenwich Cemetery on Tuesday, September 29th at 1:00 pm.   A reception at Savannah Yacht Club will be held following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Camp Sea Gull at 2744 Seafarer Road, Arapahoe, NC 28510 or St. John’s Church, One West Macon Street, Savannah, Georgia 31401.
